Connecting PC > TV

Hi all, wonder if anyone has seen anything like this.

I'm running an HDMI cable from my graphics card straight into an HDMI input on the TV in the next room.

when I switch over to the correct HDMI channel on the TV, I can see my Windows Desktop perfectly.

But, no other program's GUI shows up, I cannot see Windows Media Player, IE, Windows Explorer, nothing. Oh, and there's no sound either.

I must be missing a trick (or two) somewhere, any ideas people?

I thought this would be easy

There are a couple ways to set up multiple monitors and it seems like a combination of Windows basic drivers and the specific drivers you have.

Go check you Control Panel>Display settings and look to see how you have the two displays configured.

I have seen 3 basic choices and I imagine there are variations.

You can usually duplicate the desktop, extend the desktop, or re-use the back ground so it sort of looks like duplicate but it's really a second desktop. (which is the one I suspect you are using).

If you are using that third option you'll need to drag the GUI windows over to the second desktop.

If you go to Control Panel>Display the choices and implication should seem fairly obvious once you try a few of the choices.

    Hope that helps.

    all the best,
    mike

    Almost forgot...

For the sound, you may have to go to the Windows "mixer" and make sure that the HDMI audio stream is active etc.

It's usually just a check box.

    best regards,

you just set the tv as a default device for the audio

the tv is an extended desktop, thats why you don't see the other screen (check in ya screen properties)

I run a samsung off this laptop, but it doesn't have the res exactly right .. e.g. drag a browser across, maximise... and see if it' fills the screen properly OR it's cutting stuff off the top

you need to drag the program you want onto that bit of the desktop.. you might wanna invest in a wireless keyboard/mouse type device.. looks a bit like a laptop without the screen bit, or you can get a mini version.

I use a mini keyboard on top of my music keyboard.

    Right..... video transmission sorted

But nothing on the audio front yet.

I suspect this is because the pc I'm transmitting from has the onboard Realtek disabled, so I can use my Saffire 6 USB when I'm playing with Sonar.

A couple of options here - I can probably set/reset it every time i want to run audio into the next room, or simply run a pair of analog audio cables to the home stereo system.

In fact, this is a great idea because the cables are already in place, I just have to move some hardware around. And I won't have to mess around with disabling & re-enabling the Realtek.

Thanks lads, onto the next little project!

Does your graphics card have an audio driver associated with it?

The NVIDIA GeForce 210 I use requires an audio driver for use with the HDMI came with the card.

    Not sure John.

My card is an ATI Radeon HD5800

I've just been through the extensive help, and there's no mention of an audio driver.

    Thanks anyway.

See this page it talks about audio drivers near the bottom.
