Considering Omnisphere 2
Hi I'm currently considering purchasing Omnisphere 2. When I had a look on Time+Space, they've got a bundle that includes Omnisphere 2, Groove 3 Omnisphere 2 Explained, and Audiority Relative Dimension for £299. Alternatively, I could just get Omnisphere 2 by itself for £285. It's only £14 more, but it's also £14 I could spend on something else; I was under the impression that there are so many sounds in Omnisphere that an expansion would almost be irrelevant. Has anyone used the tutorial video/expansion in the bundle and think they are definitely worth it? Thanks Ant

That is the lowest price I've seen Omnisphere 2. The Groove3 course is very educational and worth the watch. Especially if you want to learn more about how sounds are made in Omni and make your own. I have an all-access account with Groove3 so that might be something you'd rather look into. The Omnisphere sound bank is impressive in both size and quality but they do lack if you're looking for specific sounds that might not be the focus of the core library. I find that many of the sounds I use come from other designers like The Unfinished, PluginGuru, Audiority, etc. because they not only tend to focus on different libraries of certain sounds, but they also push the limits to what Omnisphere can do. For instance, The Unfinished has a few multi-patches that sound amazing but will completely wreck my main computer which is an 4ghz i7 with 64GB of ram because of the way they are designed, the amount of high resource gobbling samples and effects, etc. all in the one patch. Many libraries tend to use the main soundsources that come with Omnisphere but you also have people like PluginGuru who will add in his own waves to build off of in his libraries. That also opens up another area of sound design. Do you need to buy third party libraries? Not at all, but I suck at sound design so these libraries help augment what I do. Is Omni 2 worth it? I use it on pretty much every single song I make so to me, absolutely. Is the bundle? Take a listen to the library they include http://www.audiority.com/shop/relative-dimension/ and decide if that's what you plan on making with Omnisphere. If not, then likely not worth it. Especially when you can often get a few days of Groove3 for free now and then when they do promotions.

As for expansions to O2, this Audiority one is pretty good, but the sweetest in my book come from PlugInGuru, particularly the MegaMagic ones, for pads, guitars, bells and winds. They do include more samples and these are top notch. Just have a look at Skippy's demo vids ( https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VPlEItf2ts8).

Plug in Guru's libraries for O2 are on a plane none of the O2 patches achieve... the Airwave, OMG, and endless others are absolutely priceless, as are Skippie's instructional videos which must totally more than 40 hours by now will blow you away. Every library video will teach you IMPORTANT stuff. Omnisphere is by far the most significant single piece of kit EVER created. The Guru's library's for O2, which add samples, effects setups, multis, arps, and so much stuff you've never imagined are just as significant... and take O2 to an entirely NEW level. Skippy does frequent 25 and up percent off sales... he's very generous. For example, right now he has a 40 percent off holiday/tax sale on 15 of his libraries . As it's Easter, you have to "find" the hidden gems.... Some of the BEST patch developers on Eaarth now work with him. The diversity of sounds/musical types/textures/rhythms/drums/poly mind benders run the gamut of musical styles... NO library is redundant. You wanna sample how far from "base" O2 you can go? Check out Airwave 1 and the recent Airwave 2 libraries... friggin on another planet... at least 4 vids on these two efforts alone.

I use Omnisphere 2 extensively on my tracks (soundcloud.com/biodiode)However, there is one little foible with Omnisphere when you come to bounce with audio, even if you route the output of Omnisphere to other audio tracks all 8 come through that one output when you bounce down.
The way round this is to
1) insert the synth without an audio output 2) then insert 8 audio tracks, and 3) route each output A - H to these tracks.
That way when you bounce tracks to audio each output is routed correctly.

Antler - Omni2 is great as is. Congrats on getting it. What Vastman says can't be underscored enough. If you get into the pluginguru.com site you'll see how Omni2 goes from being ridiculously great to mind-boggling-ly awesome at a very low extra cost. For folks using only Omni2 and not tapping in to the extra patch sets they are missing out.

I spent a week going through patches when I first got it, gave up about halfway through. Even if I had managed to audition them all, it wasn't long afterward they came out with v. 1.5 which added 780 new ones. Then came v. 2 with 400 new waveforms and 4,000 new patches. And I just added 1,200 more a couple weeks ago when I installed the Keyscape Creative collection. That's over 13,000 factory patches at last count.

making use of the browser ranking system and annotating things to build your own particular corner of nirvana is a valuable exercise. Multi building is an entire journey into personal ecstasy ... you will never risk sounding like anything else! This is particularly true as you can build cross libraries... drawing from the entire range of resources you accumulate, and apply things like arps and customized effects to different elements of the sounds you're toying with... Each step along the way you can tweak and modulate in so many directions that what I've said before rapidly becomes appreciated... that you can spend your entire life creating the most mindbendingly eloquent music with your own personal touch with this platform alone... This is NOT intimidating at all...You don't have to go there at all! However, try building a multi and you'll be hooked... once you begin to become comfortable with the very logically designed GUI, you'll be in a playground you'll love and/or can ignore...And falling to sleep learning to make passionate love to this creature, by absorbing Skippy's zillion vids, is way better than any TV besides The Expanse! This really is the most lovely creature in my 6+ very substantial hard drives...

Oh, tom... you MUST upgrade... it is unbelievably more advanced and includes a huge library expansion of uber awesomeness...And EASIER to go from A to B, lock features while exploring others, and abilities in general are greatly expanded. New effects are mindblowing and the best in class. So many features that... well... Skippy has vids when O2 was coming out which you should view and it is without a doubt it is the BEST $150 you can spend (unless you're starving and near death). I own most synth/trance/drum stuff and wouldn't trade the O2 upgrade for all of them, A Bit of info from Skippy synth/editing/more Another Guru vid on O2 enhancements effects/arps/multi's/and more Suffice it to say, every O2 vid after it's release continues to explore and expand on new things, how to's and believe me....
