Console & Track views on Extended Desktop - seperate monitors
Hi, I would like to know if the X series of Sonar will allow the track view and console view to be seperated. I use SHS 7.0 and the console and track view are locked within the main program window. I am using two 50 inch Plasma screens and would like to be able to have both views up at once. Any suggestions or info would be appreciated as to whether this is possible in the new programs. Thanks. Its always been possible and easy to do going back to Pro Audio. Its very likely its possible with SHS too. In X3 Pro all you do is take the Console tab in the multidock and drag it over to the other monitor. You can also drag the multidock over as well. With X1 I had the Inspector on the other monitor. That was before I had two wide screens. You could try SHS by right clicking on the icon to the left in the title bar of the Console window if it has one.

Hi, It does work in SHS 7.0 You have to minimize both the console and track views and click on the minimized one that has a small box with four other boxes in it on the left of the window. Then you have to select "Enable Floating". You can only seem to float one window, but that's enough for me. I hope this explanation helps someone who might have a similiar question. Thank you very much for your extremely useful repy. The Badger

I run this way all the time, and it save me a lot of time, plus it is easy on the eyes. Many folks here in the forum run multiple monitors, some as many as 4. I used to use 3, but ended up giving one to a friend, so now I am back to 2 - a 32" HDTV and a 46" HDTV, and LOVE it. Bob Bone

Yeah, I do this too. Main Sonar window on the left monitor, multidock on the right monitor. I always have the console open in the multi-dock, but it's also where stuff like the piano roll or the Melodyne view pops up. I find it really elegant to use that way. In the mix stage, I sometimes stretch the multidock across both monitors for an extra wide console view. All works flawlessly.

Actually, I say "flawlessly", there's still a weird lurking bug where you can cause crashes by using the bus controls on the second monitor, in various semi-obscure circumstances. But as a general working methodology, it's fine.

Thanks for the tip about undocking the whole multi-dock: didn't know you could do that. Not sure it really matters to me, as I don't really care for the multidock that much (for some reason), but maybe having it undocked from the main screen would change my thoughts on that. Have to give it a shot and see if it works.

On a somewhat related subject, how easy is it to set up more than 2 monitors? I'm currently running 2, but would like to augment my setup with an additional monitor, maybe even 2 if the price is right. Does this require a graphics adapter with 4 ports? Can I easily "mix & match" between different video technologies? Many thanks, Jonesey

The only Window that can't be floated independent of the main program is Track view.
As for multi monitors I have a card with 4 outputs but you can use multiple graphics cards as long as using the same driver as far as I know.

Thanks Mike. Just out of interest, what GFX card are you using?

I used to use 2 different graphics cards with no problems. I now run both displays off the on-board graphics, also with zero problems. Bob Bone
