Console emulation plugin recomendations

Hello all!
While waiting for the Sonar issue to work itself out, I've started to work in Reaper.
Any recommendations for console emulation plugins?

Thanks,
Ray

There are a couple of good ones from Waves. J37, and Kramer Tape.
I like them both.
There's a bunch of (probably good) free ones I haven't tried as well.
All the best.

SONAR still works; what's wrong with using it? I'm not sure what the "SONAR issue" is other than Cakewalk was shut down by Gibson and the intellectual property sold to another company which has yet to release anything.

The console and tape emulations in SONAR were written by Overloud. While they do not sell the versions they made for Cakewalk, they do have a combined console and tape emulation plug-in in VST2/3 formats.

The Waves J37 and Kramer are not console emulations. They are tape saturation plugins. Waves does have their NLS which provides 3 different modeled consoles. Slate Digital has their Virtual Console Collection which contains 4 modeled consoles. They're both quite good.

The Overloud GEM Tapedesk is similar to what SONAR has (it was their tech introduced in X3). They combine the console emulation with tape saturation. It's pricey, but they did have a special for SONAR users. It's a nice plug-in, vst2 and vst3.

A lot of the Waves stuff is on sale right now for great prices if you want to go that route.

I don't use console emulators, but if I ever decided that one was needed, I'd probably go with SDRR. At least with that product you also get some other flavors of distortion in the bargain. Plus it's cheap.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Now THAT's how you name a plugin!
Anyway, Waves makes some great ones.  I particularly like their TG12345 which emulates the board used at Abbey Road in the '70's (think Beatles Abbey Road and Dark Side of the Moon).   Watch their sales and you should be able to snag any waves stuff at a great price.

You haven't lived until you've taken the Rorschach.

One of the best is Harrison Mixbus 4, which can often be had for $19. A steal when compared to the prices on some of the plugins out there.

Waves NLS is great, been using it for a few years. It has a dual mono function built in which processes the left and right separately, thus making tracks sound wider and giving them some depth, just like a real console would. At the time of this post it`s on offer for $29

A couple more to consider, Waves SSL channel strip and bus comp emulations (expensive at full price though) and SSL’s own Duende console/channel strip emulation.

And Waves REDD is a decent emulation of high-end desks from the 1930s through to the mid 1960s.
