Console emulator placement

It says in the instructions it is usually best to have the console emulator first in the chain. It also says signal flow goes from top to bottom. Why is it then that when you open a preset pro channel the console always appears at the bottom??? Isn't that the last place in the chain?

They certainly had the CE last in the chain in the Webinar demo.

Yes it is the bottom of the chain and this might be the reason http://forum.cakewalk.com/fb.ashx?m=2674640

I guess there is some debate about placement. It's just funny how Cake reccomends to put it first in chain and all their setups have it last.

This must have been a good question. I asked Cake Tech support and it stumped them. he did say he would still put them first in the chain to do what they are meant to do. He said they would look into why they are last in presets.

Think about it for a second. Where is a normal analog console in the chain?

Answer that and you'll answer your question to where its suppose to go.

Pss. The console is mostly first in the signal chain

For those that always run it first in the chain I think there is some reason for variance with that method- if you're running an amp simulator for a guitar/bass/etc that should really be run before the console emulation if you want to emulate a "normal" analog signal path.

My own preference is to run it last in the chain because I feel like this gives a more consistent "glued together" sound, which Noel hinted at in his post on the topic. For me it's subjective and largely came from my own testing with it.

    I don't think it's hard and fast.

    Peace,

Since a console is the first and last thing in the chain, in the DAW world console emulators aren't really emulating consoles. They're primarily plugins to add harmonic distortion.

Really the only question is, do you want it added before or after your other plugs?

And for the record, I personally feel Slate does it best.
