Console view slow refresh rate

Could you please help me with some issue I'm experiencing with my Sonar X3e? I'm running it on an Intel Core Duo Q9550, 2.83GHZ, 8GB RAM, Win 8.1. The video card is an ATI radeon 7700.
 
The main window runs buttery smooth but as soon as I open the console view during a fairly simple session (3 VI for example, plus five audio tracks routed to a couple buses and with three or four plugins running), everything starts slowing down; numbers run choppy and plugin GUIs slow down and are less responsive to mouse action. I close the console window, everything goes back to normal!
Now, the plot thickens: if I minimize the console to the dock, everything still runs sludgy even if the mixer is not displayed. Tool tips fade in and out very slowly and in general the refresh rate is laggy; I close the console - BAM everything goes back to super snappy.
 
Anyone else has got the same issue? Let me add that the CPU performance indicator shows that the cores'workload is quite light.
