Constant Static and Hissing

Quick question... I Just got Sonar 7 along with Roland RSM-90 monitors and a Edirol FA-66 interface. I'm new to this so I'm already a little lost! I hooked up the monitors to my power amp and ran my mixer into the interface, etc. When it came time to connect the DV/firewire cable to my laptop immediate, static, fuzz, you name it-- started coming out of the monitors. Even when I turned the interface off the fuzz was still there, and I can even close out of Sonar and there's still fuzz. I was convinced it was the power amp at first, but i played my keyboard just fine through them using the mixer and interface. So now i think it must be the firewire to DV cable but I was just experimenting and I got clean playback from the demo song but I'm not sure what I did and its back to static again. I have no idea what to do. I'm running Vista with a 2gb of RAM and a 1.66ghz processor. Ideas anyone??

How are you connecting the mixer to the FA66; from what outputs on the mixer to what inputs on the FA66?

From the mixer I'm taking a stereo pair of 1/4 cables into the inputs in the front of the FA66. Then I'm going out of the FA66 via a firewire 4 pin and into my laptop via DV.

Ok, I'm not an expert on the Edirol's, but it looks like for line level output from a mixer you should plug into the RCA inputs on the back (Inputs 3 & 4)

    DV? Digital video?
Just go from the FA66 firewire port to the computer firewire port.
Could be a ground loop problem, even bad (intermittent) audio cables, oxidized audio connections. Or your power amp go be going south. Is it a tube amp by any chance? If so, check the tubes.

Ensure that you're using balanced cables for the output to the speakers, also make sure your firewire chipset is by Texas Instruments (T.I.).
