That is a velocity midi indicator, so if it's in the red, alot of velocity. Nothing to worry about though.

Hi, A1 - Actually, as has been said on this thread, it's a MIDI activity indicator, not a velocity indicator.  You can have the barest whisper of a velocity level, or you can just push a button on a controller - do Anything in the realm of MIDI, and this fire engine red brick of light goes off up there at the top of the fader.  That's where we see clipping shown in an Audio meter.  But here it is in the MIDI strips just to indicate, "Yep - ya got yer MIDI goin' on there, pal." - It's redundant, we don't need more MIDI indicators, and it's silly that it looks the same as when an audio strip is peaking.

Also as has been pointed out on this thread, it's been like this in Sonar for some time.  Only now the default color is the same red as for clipping.  In Sonar 8.5, this was a light blue - and I literally never noticed it before.  It was low key and subtle as it should be. - Who needs a MIDI fader at all, really?  It's what's happening in a synth's Audio channel that we should be concerned about.

I can easily predict that newcomers to Cakewalk who have X1 as their first version will be confused by this.  They'll be posting in here, "Why are my faders always peaked out????"--

Update from X1 Help File: Apparently it is not only a MIDI Activity indicator but a MIDI Velocity Meter as well See Pic.

Thanks, Mudgel, for the clarification.  I wasn't talking about the meter part itself, because it plainly shows velocity levels, as shown in that diagram.  I've been talking about the uppermost section, that rectangle at the very top which lights up as a MIDI indicator, where on audio strips we see clipping indicated.  In X1 it makes it look the same as clipping, and to a newbie, that could be confusing - well, it was confusing to several of us not-so-newbies.

Yeah, it confused me at first as well and, even after realizing that it is just a MIDI activity indicator, it still throws me off on occasion.  I'd also like to see it changed to something less "alarming" (e.g., green or blue).

I think the blue is the best suggestion as it will indicate what the track is separately AND there won't be any red "warning will robinson" clipping either ;)

Yes, light blue is what we had in Sonar 8.5, and as I've said on this thread, it was so un-alarming that I really never noticed it.  - It's been suggested that we can edit this red in X1, but I haven't had success with that.  As per the threads primarily about X1 color, something is screwy with the color editor.
