Control Bar enhancement ideas

Got a few thoughts I'm going to work up into a feature request, but thought I might share them here first and get others' thoughts.

First thing is; the control bar show / hide module thing could be made a lot more elegant, I think. Much like the way the browser, multi-dock and inspector enable you to quickly get in and out of views as they are pertinent.

In addition to being able to completely remove or add modules, it would be nice if they were collapsable. Here's an image of how I imagine it being:

As you can see, the Snap and Transport modules are still present, and just a quick click on any of the little arrows can expand / collapse a module.

You could take this further and have tiny collapsed mode controls on some of them. EG, maybe you don't need the full transport right now, but in collapsed mode, it could have just little play, stop and record buttons.

nb: Absolutely no prizes for posts riffing on "I'll tell you how they can enhance it, they can CHANGE IT BACK!"

    Hi JohnT...

It looks fine to me.... quite a good idea......

One of the main issues in fact, at the moment, is that too many modules are hidden, "off-screen", even on a nice 19'' monitor...

Yours could be one possible solution, in combination with each module's customization, to finally get all the modules easily available, at hand....

    not bad at all........

I'll tell you how they can improve it - they can change it back, I can't use X1 at the moment because there's no icons....etc...etc

I like the idea John T. I'd also like to see the control bar state remembered in each screenset as well, just to save me pressing C as often.

Once you've got the FR sorted post it up and I'll put another one in, someone from CW said the more requests the more likely it is to get implemented.

The main benefit is that you don't have to decide ahead of time what you want in the control bar if your monitor isn't wide enough. It's really just a friendlier skin on what it already does.

    This is an excellent idea.

Did you put in a feature request for this yet ?.

It would also be nice if the Control Bar configuration was saved with Screensets.

And being able to drag modules out of the bar for individual floating would be cool.

And being able to customize the modules and/or create your own custom modules would be cool.

...yes, Scott... it would be cool and URGENT........   especially, but not only, for those users (most, possibly...) with a single monitor...

...AT LAST, after months of requests, it seems about time....

It doesn't hurt seriously at least not me. I have those modules I use and none I don't.

...it's not only you out there, John...

...you should just admit the current Control Bar is not much comfortable....

...X1 would only benefit from its improvement....

...I think that at least is a fact................

Well one would have to agree and I don't. Its uncomfortable for you but not for me. It could use some tweaking but then so could the 8.5 GUI.

It sure doesn't stop me in anyway.

...nothing is perfect... everything can be improved.... even X1....

...there's no point in pretending it's good as it is... as it simply CAN'T be....

...The Control Bar needs customization... to suit everybody's needs.... even yours....

I like this idea...   It uses the min/max concept already in place, and it could help get more on screen at one time without having to select from a right-click drop-down list.

    Yup.

Of course, it does help when there's something constructive offered right from the start.  Plus, it just seems like a nice reuse of an existing X1 capability.

    Great idea John,

I like the current Control Bar but this would be a nice improvement!

    As an aside,

It would be interesting to see what kind of code it would take to determine which module(s) would get covered up when a collapsed module was expanded. The control bar container only has so much space.

It would be great if it could be done right. It wouldn't be so great if I expanded a module and it covered up other modules I absolutely needed to use at the same time. :)

    Kind regards,
    Rick

    Purrrfect Audio DAW here.  Wow!...
