Controllers/Surfaces

Hi, I'm using the v700R without the control surface.  I have a mic plugged into input 1 on the back and getting a signal but it is very low. When i try to create a control surface to get into the control so I can turn up the mic or use phantom power the the mic pre and direct mix are greyed out? it will not let me click on them can you tell me what im doing wrong? I have a signal on the track and input put but very little signal and output.  Could you explain how to set up the v700R without attaching the control surface so i can use the back of the IO to plug in a guitar and mic.
Thanks

I'm using it myself without the control surface.  First, you need to make certain you have the VS editor downloaded and up to date.  The default setting for the mic pre's is with the --20dB attenuation set to on.  Turn it off with the editor.  You may find you still hear some white noise when adjusting the volume but for whatever reason it doesn't translate to the tracks the way I hear it.

The mic pre's on the VS are VERY good!  I'm using two channels of VERY high-end mic pre's by A-Designs as well as two other expensive mic preamps and the VS's pre's are very close!   So I would go through the learning curve and keep that thang!

What he said lol. Yes, turn off the -20db pad. Make sure your monitors are turned down.

You have to open the Mic Pre Tab to get to the Mic Pres and the -20db pads.

    Very strange...
From the picture it looks like you've installed the standalone console drivers.

Look like there's no vs700R drivers at all...

Be shure to download and install the right drivers, maybe the "set" drivers is your answer, even if you don't use the console.

Ah, Sacalait said it " make certain you have the VS editor downloaded and up to date".

    So, does it work?

Hey guys thanks for the help ..I have one more issue i cant remember how to fix!!

I'm using vst's on all tracks Vocals ,Guitar rig and session drummer..I'm getting a mess of crackling in the playback and recording if i turn off session drummer it still happens but just a little. What would be the correct setting for this.

I'm using v700 software x1 and v-studio i/0. I have not updated the  i/0 with any new versions and it worked great on  8.5 with no poping crackling in the mix.
I have tryed to set my  bandwith and everything still getting this problem. Help... seems like it starts when using vst like guitar rig and session drummer.

Looks like you're having latency issues. Try and set your I/O buffer at a higher setting for playback, in preference menu.

If you don't have updated the I/O yep I thinkg you should do this first, since this update directly affect what you are experiencing.

1st update the I/O firmware, the console if you have one, and then update the drivers.

You'll be able to have lower lattency and will greatly increase stability (cracks and pops issues). With a proper computer, this driver have one of the best latency specs availible, very much worth installing it!

Go to support section to get the drivers and official installation instructions.

Yeah i have been avoiding updating the I/0 lol but i will try, i have attached a DCP reading. When i try to set the latency higher no sound i will attach those settings to.

+1 on the 1st update the I/O firmware, the console if you have one, and then update the drivers.
