Conversion Quality

I’m curious about the A/D and D/A conversion on the V-Studio 100.  Can anyone comment on it?

I’ve been using the E-Mu 1820m (predecessor to the 1616m and 1212m) and it supposedly has the same A/D converters as are used in the high-end Pro Tools rigs.  The 1820m’s conversion quality really is outstanding and I don’t really want to switch, but I’m having problems with it working with Windows 7 (ya, I’ve tried the beta driver).

Basically, I’m wondering how much I’m going to be bumming about not have the 1820m’s conversion quality.

Any comments?  Thanks!

Barthowk: This thread really doesn't give a definitive answer - but it does give a little insight into the converter quality with Brandon Ryan (from Cakewalk) providing a couple posts.

M@ B: This question reminds me of the one you were asking just the other day. Your question was geared toward the Pre-Amp area, while this is for the converters. I tend to think of the two as one entity, even though they are separate sections of the unit.

Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take!

Cool, thanks.  That thread helps.  Found this too: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-much-gear-so-little-time/454676-new-cakewalk-v-studio-100-good-interface.html, so someone else thinks they are at least decent.

BTW, I don't think it was me that posted about its preamps.  I'll be using my A-Designs Pacifica and will probably be bypassing the V-Studio 100's built-in preamps.  :-)

Thanks for that other link. I'll have to head over there to take a look when I get a chance.
