Convert Cakewalk midi events to .wav

My DAT just crashed. I found a Cakewalk "tips" page stating that Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 is capable of converting completed midi events to wav files without using a DAT recorder.

Tried it unsuccessfully. Am using a PC with a DAL Card Deluxe soundcard + a number of external modules with their outputs connected to an external mixer.

Connected the main LR outs of the mixer to the inputs of the soundcard, chose an empty Cake track, set the source to Stereo, set the port to Card deluxe Analog, armed the track and hit record (to play back the midi file). The resultant audio track was empty. Am up a tree here. Can someone explain what I may be doing wrong?

P.S. The soundcard is working perfectly so it's not the culprit. Thanks for the help.

Connecting the mixer outs to the soundcard inputs is exactly the right thing to do. Here's some things to wonder about.

The audio track source and the port must be set to the soundcard.

Did you open the console view? Did you see any action on the meters for the audio track?

The Options>Audio... settings have an option for simultaneous playback and record. Is that selected?

Larry...thanks for your input. Yes, console view was open but no signal. Will check out the Options>Audio settings.

Have you ever recorded any audio thru the soundcard inputs?
If not, you should check the recording settings in the windows mixer. Normally when you double click the speaker icon in the system tray the master volume controls come up. But you can click Options>Properties and then select the recording controls.
