Cool As Ice - UPDATED

Think of this as sort of... Mark Knophfler meets Jerry Lee Lewis... or something like that.

At any rate, I hope you find it fun.

Verse 1
When she walks down the street
Everybody stares
But she don’t mind
Cause she don’t care
Bout nobody, no nothing, no way, no how
No need to call her name

She’s got more men
Than a dog’s got fleas
And she can get some more
Anytime she please
She can bring a man down
Right down to his knees.

Chorus
She’s Cool As Ice
She’s No Lady
Sacrifice
Your Pride and Maybe
She’ll put you off
Before she puts you down.
She knows just what to do.

She’s Cool As Ice
She’s Hell to Pay
Take My Advice
And Run The Other Way
Keep on Movin’ ‘till you’re on the other side of town.

Verse 2
She don’t Need You
She don’t need Me
Everything she wants She get’s for Free
Fancy Car, Diamonds, and a Swimin’ Pool.
What more could a cool girl need

She don’t like  Conversation
And Breakin’ hearts
Is her occupation
She’s a Journey and a Destination too

Verse 3
She don’t give a damn or
The time of day
Won’t talk to strangers or
Come out to play
She won’t take your call
So put down the telephone
Operator information

She won’t commit
She won’t go steady
If looks could kill
You’d be dead already
She’s got you singing
Those Desperation Blues

What a fun song....very nice, Daryl.  I love the lyrics and the singing is great.  Guitar is smooth as silk.  Only little note from these little speakers is the tom toms and kick sound super compressed to the point of just being a tiny dot.   It may just be these speakers though.
    Great job.

This is another one of those that I read the description and nearly thought ...nah, not my thing and didn't listen, but then I did anyway and I'm glad I did. Everything sounds good and much as it should to me except maybe some of the drums are a little lost. Cymbals are coming across well, but especially the drum rolls seem a little too low in the mix to me. Just my opinion as a listener - I don't claim to be any kind of expert. Enjoyed the listen anyway.

    Hey, Daryl,

Perfect song title because this song really is "Cool As Ice"!  Great writing, excellent vocals, and nice guitar playing with perfect tone for those tasty solos.

This reminds me of a cross between Jerry Lee Lewis, as you mentioned earlier, and The Stray Cats.

    Really nice job!

Thanks for the feedback. This was a fun tune and while a little out of my typical genre, I sort of viewed it as a interim step back to what I normally do after that Texas swing number with Scott.

It started with the guitar ideas and it was sounding very Dire Straits like, but when I stared on the lyrics, it camp out more of a 50's R&B, so in the end it was a melding of styles.

I had the line "Cool As Ice" and asked myself: "What is that about?"  And this is what came out.   On another day it might have ended up being about some dead guy.

This is some tasty stuff!! Some really nice guitar runs and it's a fun song with cool vocals. I agree the drums could sound bigger, although the current drum kit does sort of give it an old-time vibe.

I really like this song, nothing to add to this one but a smile and thank you for sharing the song because I enjoyed listening to this one very much.

Well, that is with the exception of one small thought, maybe it might be overkill but if at times on the words and vocals it would sound cool if you add "Uh huh" or something like that to add a little extra expression.

Whether you do or do not it sounds good to my ears.

    Great guitar solo!

I can hear a bit of Dire Staits in this and since I love them, it only makes sense I'd enjoy this one as well.

    Nice job.

GREAT guitar and vocal work. Really like the tone and placement of the guitar in the mix. My only nit is the crash cymbal sitting pretty forward and bright in the mix. All in all I really enjoyed this piece. KUDOS!

I feel somewhat vidicated on the vocal tone after the one early this year that everybody hated  But I appreciate that because I'm going to re-record the vocals on that soon.

This song is at the top of my range and I was surprised that I could pull it off at all, but in the end I was pleased.

    Thanks for the listen.

Terrific number.  To me this captures the feel of some of the stuff going down in the early '60's.  Mark Knophfler meets Jerry Lee Lewis yes but I also get a little taste of Carl Perkins.
    Nice one!!

Well, I'm never gong to think of you as an excellent guitarist only anymore. I'm impressed Daryl. The vocals sound great, and I especially paid attention to your phrasing/delivery which was also excellent. Very good wrinting skills to top it off. The mix is a real treat on the JBL's. Bravo!!

Thanks to everyone for your warm reception of this piece.

The only consistent comment was that the drums need to come up, so.... If you're interested I did bring the drums up and it does seem to have more snap.    I think I often have my drum tracks low because I'm self concious about them.  Thanks everyone!

JC - I would love to be remembered as "just an excellent guitarist".    Thank you!

Great song. Voice sounds professional--smooth, powerful tone. Perfect pitch.

    Words are magnificent.

Really nice guitar solo. Did it have to go on so long the first time? Couldn't another instrument take over midway to keep it from getting old? or else shorten it?

I wanted to hear the song go out with words, not another solo.

As it stands, this song is really professional. Voice, words, and guitar playing are awesome.

A confession - the first record i ever bought (i was about 5) was by Shakin Stevens (the UK forumites will be laughing at me now), and this tune reminds me of his stuff (he was the UK's answer to Elvis...in his head!)

well-performed and produced, it'd be a cool live number i bet!

Thanks once again for all the kind comments.  I'm glad the vox track and lyrics are well accepted and I'm about to repost my infamous song with the wretched tone - completely redone thanks to everyone's honesty.  Maybe some day I can get my lyrics and singing more in line with the guitar tracks.

PeggySueChan, Your observations are undoubtedly spot-on and any A&R man would agree with you... but I'm a guitar centric person, so for me every song is an opportunity to express myself with the guitar, so by nature I will always create a lot of opportunity in that respect.  And as to why there is not another instrument in the solo, is because I suck at most other instruments.  I struggle with piano, but I can get the basics.  I'm reworking my ancient mandolin skills and hope to post something with that soon.  But at the end of the day... I'm another soul in the multitude of hopeless guitar slingers.  Thanks for listening and thanks for the comments.
