    My theory is Cakewalk decided to do a full overhaul of Sonar knowing that the end of the decade was coming. They had a two part (year)plan,similar to overhauling a car. First you overhaul the engine, then you do the paint job. So Sonar 8 and even more so, Sonar 8.5, that was the engine and chasis overhaul. And now with X1, we get the tires, paint job and the interior. Not only does she run fast, now she handles great and looks good doing it.
     
    You don't do this full scale overhaul of such a complex piece of software in 1 upgrade cycle. So they did it in two. I do think when they started the overhaul with Sonar 8 that they knew where they were going with it. And from the looks of it, they really listened to the Cakewalk user community. Hats off to everyone at Cakewalk for really making great software. Thanks!

    from the looks of it, they really listened to the Cakewalk user community.


    This seems to be so... I'll be upgrading on Dec 8 if all the others don't crowd me off the download server.  The docking feature alone will save me decades (maybe hundreds) of hours next year and keep my blood pressure 10 points lower than it has been while working this year. 




    Sonar 8.5 Producer Version 8.5.3.282 - Windows XP Home Edition w/all upgrades through SP3 - Windows Vista business SP2 - PreSonus FireBox interface - M-Audio UNO - Behringer UCA202 U-control - ADK ProAudio quad-core 3.2 Ghz overclocked, 8 Gb ram - been with Cakewalk since 3.0 in 1990 ( it was MIDI only...under MS/DOS - computer was 4 MHz :) )
