Copy Track Name(s) to Clip Name(s) Question

I'm having trouble understanding the logic behind the sequence numbers assigned to clips by the Copy Track Name(s) to Clip Name(s) command. Am I missing something or should this be added to the bug list?

The clip names produced by this command include a number. Example: "Vcl - 01" from track name "Vcl", but the number is not very useful. My audio recordings are typically made of a band playing a number of songs live. Sometimes there are multiple takes of a song. I go through the completed recording and insert markers for the start and end of each song and then move Now Time from marker to marker and split all clips in all tracks into song clips. At this point I'd like to name the clips numerically left to right so that the clips in all tracks for the same song will have the same sequence number. That doesn't seem possible. Here's what happens:
(1) If I select all clips in one track, clips in each track are numbered in a somewhat random order and the sequence for each track is different. For example 03, 10, 11, 04, 01, 12, 06 for one track and 04, 11, 10, 05, 01, 12, 03 for another. (See attach screenshot link.)
(2) If I select all clips in one song (vertically) or all tracks/clips, all clips are numbered 01, which is understandable but useless.

Any advice appreciated.
