Copy and Paste Midi and/or Audio? Sonar 6

For some reason, I'm not getting this. I'm new to Sonar 6, I want to copy and paste some midi and audio data already recorded to the same respective tracks. Is drag and drop the only way to do it? I was trying to use the old way of using the now marker, etc. but nothing's working. Thanks for the help!

THere are a number of ways. Also, sometimes using Groove Clipping is another approach.
Depending on what you're trying to copy (and where/how long, etc).

The fact that you need a MANUAL to perform such a simple, basic and universal computer function such as copy and paste indicates a problem with the software interface, not the user. I've NEVER had to look at a manual or help file to figure out how to copy anything, ever, in any program I've ever used.

Except Sonar.

Just the other day, in fact, I was trying to copy some notes in the staff view to paste them to subsequent bars. Easy, right? This was a single bar of 6/8 time with an 8th rest, two 8th notes, another 8th rest and another two 8th notes. So I select (lasso around, though how a lasso can be square I'll never understand) the bar, hit CTRL+C, move to the beginning of the next bar and hit CTRL+V.

Easy, right?

Except for some reason the initial 8th rest wasn't copied. So I tried selecting the notes one at a time. And it was there I noticed that for some bizarre reason, you can't select rests. Um, hello? Rests are musically-valid squiggles, too. And Sonar treats them that way -- IF they're in the middle of a bar. But NOT if they're at the beginning of a bar.

Completely illogical inconsistency.

So I then realized I had to copy the measure, and then go not to the first beat of the next measure --which is what logic dicatates-- but to the second beat. And then Sonar kindly inserted the 8th rest it refuses to copy.

It would be very difficult to come up with a more counter-intuitive, user-hostile, aggravating and inefficient copy/paste function than this. So I wouldn't be so hard on the original poster.

And don't misunderstand me -- I love Sonar. But it has a strange way of making simple things utterly enigmatic. And its MIDI editing capabilities are state of the art... from about 1998.

Thanks everyone for your help - I really feel idiotic because I know this is so simple-
Let's say I want to copy a midi or audio track from measure 1 to the end of measure 9 and then paste that info to measure 10. Can someone please explain the steps to do this, and again I apologize for the temporary lobotomy I must be having. I was used to a certain copy/paste method that dates back to Cakewalk 3 - at least now I'm out of the cave!

1. Select what you want to copy. If this is whole clip, just select it. If this is part of a clip, hold ALT and drag-select it, - you will see greyed area.
2. Press Ctrl+N and check "Move by measure" (make sure it's not "TO measure")
3. Hold Ctrl and drag selected clip or grey part of the clip to destination measure.

I just download Sonar 7 Producer version and was trying to copy midi tracks that I made on my Yamaha psr-3000 into another MIDI file.  I can Copy and Paste alright but when I Play the files all the voice settings are changed.  I noticed that all the Control Data and patch numbers for both files are at the header of the first MIDI File.  It would be a pain in the butt to reposition these at the Right location.  The it show the track correctly but it sounds wrong.  Is there a way to lock the sysex and control Info when I paste or is there a check box that would allow me keep the control data from the second file in place?

It has never been downloadable AFAIK. This forum is the most wrong place to come seeking for support for pirated software. Not to mention that you hi-jacked a thread. It's good forum behaviour to start a thread of your own for your question.
