Instead of going back to the Track View, try using the Track Pane in the PRV to set the target track.

Hi Scook Doesn't work i have tried that and also clicking another track pane then back to the track pane i want to paste to. If you know a way that this can be done without leaving the PRV window i would really appreciate some steps . Thanks

Here is a simple test - In a new project create 2 MIDI Tracks
- Open the PRV and select both tracks to display
- Add a few notes
- Lasso the notes and CTRL+c
- Click the other track in the PRV track pane
- Reposition the cursor and CTRL+v
The new MIDI data should be on the other track.

Try copying all your data to a new project that is set up the same as the old, close the old, save the new, restart and see if it works.

IIRC, having a locked PRV in the project will prevent changing focus by selecting tracks in the PRV track pane of the active PRV.

I am not at my computer to try this atm, so going from memory... But If I remember correctly, if you click the clip you want, then press and hold ctrl on your keyboard then drag the clip to a new track, it creates a duplicate of that clip? You can also click the clip, press and hold ctrl + shift and this will duplicate the clip and align it exactly where it is in the track you are copying it from. Give that a try? P.S. if ctrl doesn't work, try alt?

No, it is Ctrl to copy. Ctrl + Shift will preserve vertical alignment

As I said ^^^ I am going from memory, I have been using the shortcut tricks for so long I do them without thinking. Either way, that's the way I do, it. And yes, as I mentioned... holding shift will align the tracks. Thanks for correcting me.

Ok I did the above and all is well , I can now copy and paste between tracks using the track panre in PRV , also my bass and drums are coming through my mix heaps more in the transferred project so something was defiantly wrong , I just want to say, how easy is it to copy and paste to a new project , AMAZING , really impressed with being able to have 2 projects open and just transfer with ease . Thanks

I tried everything believe me between lots and lots of tracks in this project and it would not work , I have transferred everything and it works perfectly now , was defiantly a corrupt project .

Just to be clear this means you do not have a locked PRV tab in the Multidock...? Because this is the one thing I know of that will definitely cause this specific issue with changing track focus, and I verified it's still a problem in the current release. I that isn't it, it's likely there's some other very specific cause, not just some indeterminate 'corruption'. If you can strip down the project to identify the cause, it might save the next guy a headache.

I am sure that I did check locked prv tab , in the transferred project it works with locked prv tab , but I will double check the original and the transfer tonight .
I am willing to check any suggestions to the original project to troubleshoot what might be causing this to help others , so please let me know anything you can think of that may fix this .
Thanks will let you know about prv tabs latter today

OK So i opened my existing ( corrupted - until resolved ) project and i proceeded to unlock several PRV windows and tried to copy and paste between tracks with NO success ! I then opened the newly transferred identical copy project and it just works , like even with Locked PRV tabs i can lasso midi off one track + CTRL C > then tap a note of another track ( with my mouse pointer ) > hit CTRL V and it WORKS SO AMAZINGLY FLAWLESS ,this is what im talking about fantastic . I wish i new what it was and why it doesn't work on the existing project maybe because i start new projects using the same project just adding new sounds midi etc and its been like that from x3. Either way as i said before any suggestions i am more than willing to troubleshoot this still but for now its back to work with this EXTRA BONUS.

Not sure what happened I did a post but it disappeared so here it is again I have found out what is happening with PRV TABS AND COPYING AND PASTING BETWEEN TRACKS ! 1 )this is VERY INPORTANT PLEASE CAN SOMEONE CONFIRM THIS A) New project B) insert 2 midi tracks and add some midi notes to both C) add both midi tracks to prv tab 1, and lock the tab D) add the same 2 midi tracks to new prv tab 2 E) in prv tab 1 , hold right click on mouse and lasso midi from track 1 F) ctrl c G) touch a midi note of track 2 H) ctrl v I ) works perfectly BUT ONLY ON PRV TAB 1 For prv tab 2 + C) add both midi tracks to prv tab 1, and lock the tab D) add the same 2 midi tracks to new prv tab 2 E) in prv tab 2 ,hold right click on mouse and lasso midi from track 1 F) ctrl c G) touch a midi note of track 2 H) on track console using mouse click select tool then smart tool H(a) or using mouse hit track 2 number ( in track view twice ) I) ctrl v This is the only way to get it to work on prv tabs 2 prv tab 3,4,5,6,7etc The copy and paste feature on works properly on prv tab 1 . Hope this helps

I think that's just a hyper-detailed way of describing what I mentioned earlier: Having a locked PRV in the project prevents changing focus in the active PRV. The workarounds are to change focus by clicking in the track view (not the track number, just the track header) or remove the locked PRV. Note also that the PRVs don't have to share tracks. For example, if PRV1 contains only Track 1 and is locked, you won't be able to change focus between tracks 2 and 3 in another PRV - the focus highlight will move, but the highlighted track doesn't actually become the target for pasting.

The purpose of locking PRVs (and other views) is to allow opening more than one, but only one can be active at a time. Good thinking to use screensets.
