Copying & Pasting Gain Automation Independent of Clip Data
I'm new to Sonar so bare with me and the basic question, I did do some Googling and couldn't find an answer to this specifically. So I'm automating Clip Gain and would like to copy my 4 automation nodes over the course of the clip I'm automating. The issue is that when selecting the 4 nodes, copying them, then pasting them where I'd like, the clip data is pasted along with the automation data. Is there a way to simply copy the selected automation data and paste it independent of the audio data on the clip. I'm trying to copy those 4 automation nodes independent of the clip data over to where the Now Time Marker in located. Thanks in advance for any help you guys are able to provide.

You can open Automation Lanes and Copy/Paste there or you can select "Copy special..."/"Paste special..." to select what to copy/paste.My bad, mixed with other automations...

Clip Gain isn't available as an option in the automation lanes, and both Copy & Paste Special don't seem to allow me to simply copy or paste Clip Automation independent of the Events/Clip.

Since no one else is responding... Clip automations are not extremely friendly in SONAR. Good workaround is to replace Clip gain automation with track automation for input gain of some dummy plug-in which you put as the fist in the processing chain: http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3065351

Yeah, I was intending to use Sonalksis FreeG for automating gain, like I have in other DAWs, before I discovered there was already Clip Gain available to automate. I guess I'm going to have to stick with Free G. Thanks for replying, that solves one of my problems at least. I'll throw another question out there just in case you have the answer to it as well. Are you too having issues with Vertical Zoom auto-scrolling to the bottom of the project? When trying to Vertical Zoom in any shape or form (Mouse+Keyboard, Vertical Zoom Control) it jumps to the last track in the project and glitches. It seems like it's all out of whack. There's already a thread on the issue posted by another user, so I'm wondering if you too have the problem and if so have you found out how to fix it? I'm running X3e Producer.

I have that issue with the zooming - especially the mouse scroll wheel
I found turning off vertical scrolling helps (I am not at my daw at the moment but there is an option somewhere)
Re: clip gain
Afaik the clip gain envelope is linked to the clip (hence clip gain) and you can't adjust it independently
Fortunately the track automation will do exactly what you want
You can either change the filter from"clip gain" to "volume automation" or you can simply open the automation lanes (2nd button in from the left at the bottom of your screenshot)

The zoom issue terrorizes me! It really slows down workflow. I think I may be the person you're referring to who previously started a thread about it. Never got a reply. Hope someone chimes in. If not, I'll be calling cus svc soon to see if they can help b/c it really is a pain.

Actually it was Bent's thread in the Problem Reports forum. That's the only info I found on the issue after an hour of searching and trying to find a solution. I wonder if the devs at Cakewalk are aware of the issue. I too will most likely contact CS because that breaks the workflow entirely. Vertical Zoom is essential to getting things done quickly, and it being broken just causes too much frustration.

Zoom issues! This is hopefully addressed in the new release (this month?)...
There seem to be a number of issues with various zoom matters. They've been driving me crazy with disruptive workflow for far too long...
Another thought regarding the clip gain copying. The small amount of edits I see in your pic should be relatively fast/simple to execute using the fast edit (excuse my not remembering the tool name), but basically, highlight the area of the clip you wish the envelope to adjust and then move your mouse to the upper third of the clip and you'll see the tool change. Then clicking and dragging up/down will auto create 4 nodes and adjust the gain to the where you wish. Not as simple as a copy/paste but not too bad for a workaround. My phone not minor discomfort with this tool is that it doesn't allow the user to define the type of curve or distance between nodes. Often it doesn't matter...
I hope this might give you another alternative...

Seems like we need to make it known how much of an issue it is. Yeah I know about the Smart Tool features, that would be a good option in regards to what I had going on in the image. In general when working on vocals for attenuating breathes or automating a LPF on plosives that's not the best option. So I've decided to forget about Clip Gain as a whole, especially since changes to the clip itself seem to remove the automation, whereas automating gain from a separate plugin on a track keeps the data intact regardless of any clip changes. Thank you for the suggestion though.
