Copying a Track Between Projects In X3

In Sonar X3, how can I copy a track from 1 project to another, keeping the instrument plug-in settings, all the plug-in FX settings, etc. I guess how to clone a track, but to a separate project? Do I have to save all my settings, then load all the plug-ins with the saved settings? Was hoping it would be simpler.

Thanks.

Right-click and choose 'Save as Track Template'.

have you tried dragging the fx to the audio clip, then right click 'copy' etc and paste into the other project.
that requires both project to be open, you can minimize one and when you copied it, maximize the other project and paste it there.

I suppose this is a "harder way".... but I used open two projects, tile them in rows( which allows me to see both of them at once, one above the other. They can also be tiled in columns), and then just Control/drag the track(s) into the other project.
Since you want to keep the fx .... you could open the project with the "keeper" and drag other tracks from the "new project" to it (deleting all that you don't need/want). Sort assembling a new project from "parts".

This has allowed me to develop 2 different arrangements of a song, when I'm not sure which I prefer....
Anyway, this might not help, but might offer some other possibilities.

I highlight the track (for example since that's what I'm usually going for) and then Control and drag, so the original stays in it's original place and I'm only making/placing a copy in the destination track. Of course there are times when I don't need to leave the original in place, so then Control is not used, just select and then drag.

I've done this with midi drum tracks, perc tracks, and as in the earlier post, the whole arrangement, meaning all the tracks, sometimes (that's easier done another way see below), only some or maybe one.....

If you're doing an alternative mix (sounds like all the FB political stuff LOL), it's simply easier to open the project and save it with a new name. That way you have both. As Craig Anderton would advise, name it so you know which ones which! LOL  Like "more acoustic" or "heavier" or "with solo and outro", etc.

Hope that helps!
Michael

I must be missing something. When I highlight a track in track view,I cannot drag a track. I can drag a clip, but not a track. In what view do you do it, and how to you drag it?

The other method is working pretty well, but want to explore all possibilities.

Thanks.

I simply create a folder and drag the clips to the browser (to that folder location).
However Brundlefly's idea is probably the best considering the track is all set up and ready to go.

Hmmm, it didn't seem tricky. I just selected and then dragged it. When I learned to do this, you could just drag the track/clip body(Sonar 5). Now, (SPLAT4Life) you have to click on the track/clip header, to drag it. You'll have to have the Smart tool engaged, too.
Chuck's way seems pretty simple, too. Thanks for the reminder that there are always more options! I don't seem to think of them, once I find one that works, but am delighted to discover how many other ways I could use.
