Copying and Pasting Envelopes from One Automation Lane to Another on the Same Track

I understand that there have been a lot of threads about this, but none of them have yielded any results for my issue.

I am using Sonar X3 Producer. I have created a synth part using the Arturia Mini V2. The particular patch I am using on the Mini has the left and right delay speed controls mapped to the same fader on a hardware controller (M Audio Axiom 49) so that they are synced. For whatever reason, I cannot get this hardware controller to write any automation to either the audio or MIDI track, although I can see that there is MIDI coming in and the sound is being changed.

My solution for this was to create an envelope for the left delay speed control, copy this envelope, create another automation lane for the right delay speed control, and paste it there. This simply does not work. Assigning the envelope to another parameter and then attempting to paste or paste special into a new automation lane does not work.

It boggles my mind that something as simple as envelope values cannot be copied and pasted between automation lanes. Clearly this has been a persistent issue in multiple versions of Sonar, including the current version as far as I know.

If I understand you correctly, I would make a preset of the track you want to use and use that preset for the new tracks you create.

Paradoxx, I am trying to copy the automation envelope from Lane 1, Track 1 to Lane 2, Track 1. Copy special and paste special do not work and assigning the envelope does not work. What do you mean when say "make a preset"? I do not want to create any new tracks.

The only way I've found to do this is to select and copy the first envelope, THEN reassign the original lane that you just copied to another parameter, and paste the original back in. It seems kind of like fooling Sonar, I wish there were a better way of doing this.

Although the best solution is to figure out why the MIDI data isn't being recorded from the Axiom, the following method works in Platinum so hopefully it will work in X3. For purposes of illustration, let's suppose the right delay is controller 15 and the left is 16.

    1. Create the MIDI controller lane for controller 15 in the PRV, not Track View. Create your automation curve.
    2. Select the automation you want to copy.
    2. Create the MIDI controller lane for controller 16 in the PRV. Right-click in this automation lane's header and choose "Copy Selected Values to this Lane."

You now have two lanes for different controllers with the same data. If you want to convert these to envelopes for use in the Track View, please see Week 93 in the "Friday's Tip of the Week" thread.
