Cornbread.
I'd love any thoughts, cheap shots, or bon mots. Where does the mix need a fix? https://soundcloud.com/songsbytom-com/cornbread (special appearance by Tsar Bomba) I think this is the last time a do a song in 88.2. I had to freeze everything to render it. 44 tracks. cheers, and thanks. -Tom

44 tracks in 88.2? wow! I tried 88.2 briefly for one project and never went back again! oh, man! Tom, this is awesome! I love every bit of it! the only small crit I have is that I would bring the rhythm guitar in the left channel down just a hair. hmm. and the synth that does the fills with the swell is a little loud, too at its peak. but man, this is tasty cornbread!!!

really like the funky vibe. on my headphones the toms seem to be a little buried. snare sounds great, bass stands out. that little shift at 1:30 is cool. very good arrangement actually, I do like cornbread, and do make it occasionally. This is a very cool song, the mix is enlightening. How do you think this stacks against your other stuff? the guitar at 3:28, sweeet masterful holmes nice tunes, with many changes to maintain the listeners interest. that funky key at 4:50. OK, now I see why people say what they do. Jesse Q. Screed Is it just me, or is the song forum on overdrive, quality wise? Jesse Q. Screed

Tom, great song and awesome bass line. But.... one thing bothers me. In the intro where the organ enters, it appears in the right channel and seems sort of removed from what's happening in the centre, sort of out there on its own. I just think it would gel more if perhaps it wasn't panned so wide. My two cents worth. Maybe that's what you intended.

I luurrrve that bass Very cool stuff Tom - Zappa meets Level 42 (I can imagine Mike Lindup's falsetto singing those 'in my dreams there are time machines' lines ), I know you're a fan of L42. Loads to enjoy in this, quite a trippy trip.

Eph - would that be Three Men and a Baby? So glad you dug it, thanks! Beagle - the two things you mentioned (rhythm guitar volume and those "swells") were on my "questionable" list as well! Thanks for your good ears and confirmation, I'll dial them both back in the next mix. Spot-on comments! Jesse - super glad you liked it and thanks for your time-specific comments! As to your question, I actually think this one stacks up a little better - I'm tempted and probably will go back to some other older mixes and re-tweak. Given, of course, infinite amounts of time. :) Thanks! Interpolated - Thanks much for the listen! Optimus -seriously a good spot about the organ, I'll rope it in a little more center in the next mix. Correct-a-mundo. JamesG - you know I am a sucker for a LEvel 42 comparison!!! Really glad you liked it and thanks for the comments!

Between Zappa meets L42 and the Porcaro brothers, I wasn't sure what to expect. But, you know, they are spot on... Love the mix on this Tom! The whole thing had me dancing in my chair, lol... Regards, Dan

I had to listen to this one, because of the song title.....I love corn bread. Love the Bass work! Nice groove. I like the levels you have on the guitar. I would actually like to hear more of that rhythm guitar work in the song. I think its only in the left channel, though and it would have probably balanced things out more if it was also happening in the right channel. The organ sound balance and at good levels on my system. Overall, really nice.

WTF... cornbread? Yes, cornbread. Good stuff, Tom. I'm not sure what I liked better - the groove, the instrumentation/arrangement or the lyrics. It's a toss-up since all were really strong. The only thing I would have liked was perhaps a slightly greasier Hammond tone in the intro, but that was made up for with that funky cornbread gravy in the end.

Tom, I missed this the first time around. Glad I caught it now. "Cornbread. Gimme some cornbread." Somehow this hit me at an unexpected angle and I laughed out loud. Great bass line and instrumentation. I'm not competent enough to comment on the mix and things like that but it sounded great to me. Only negative thing is maybe it went a little long?

Bjorn - thanks! yes cornbread is a silly thing to write a song about. Glad you liked it and thanks. It probably is a bit too long. Steve C - great call on the Hammond needing more stank. I'll see what my virtual Jimmy Smith has to say. Thanks for the compliments, much obliged for the feedback. Biodiode - good checklist! Thanks much for the listen. Daryl1968 - thanks! Say hi to Thomas Dolby, who also is living in a suitcase as I understand. Hope you get home soon.

Wookie - thanks for the emoji and the listen! Dan - thanks for diggin' it - I'm reworking the mix a little 'cause I think the drums might use a bit of help, let's see if I don't screw the whole thing up!

I love cornbread. Just had it last night. No joke. And, no joke this is a cool tune. Is that a keyboard bass? Very nice. Yes, on the opening vocal, I'm thinking a Zappa vibe but not later on. The mix sounds good with headphones. Love the clav thing in stereo at 4:48. Nice job, Tom. Yes, I'm looking for that time machine. John M
