Cosmic Sojourn
A little bit of intoxication with the lead instrument here which is a Reaktor patch that seamlessly morphs between a fast attack percussive tone and a slow attack string... https://soundcloud.com/ramscapri/cosmic-sojourn

I liked that... sorta ambient/chill, but still with a nice underlying groove. The synth bends were very cool.

Thanks for your kind words Steve. The sound of the synth was the very inspiration for the track.

I enjoyed as well. There was a definite cohesiveness and direction to the composition which alot of these ambient tracks lack.

Thanks for your generous words of appreciation eph221. They sure do drive me to stay focused all the more on aspects of composition and refrain from diverting to detailed mixing too early during making of a track. Of late, thats been happening quite a bit which delays completing the composition of a track to its end. The flip side of today's non-linear possibilities I guess

When I write these things, I'm going to take you're cue and focus on rhythmic motifs. I think that's what glues them together, some type of pattern that's recognizable. It's like favoring Braque over Picasso's cubism, no? I really liked the sixteenth note(?) bass idea. I know Hanz Zimmer writes more outlandish, spacey ambient pieces..they don't do much for me. They are effective on screen, I guess. Some composers simply mimic him don't they? :D:D

I really liked that percolating bass line, and the synced delay on some of the drum hits! Cool concept piece. Mox-wise, I would be interested if the lead synth line could come down just a bit, and the drums up. It really is lead-heavy and I was very interested in hearing the other elements, too! very cool stuff . . . -Tom

Well yeah... its all about what a piece is written for. I think scoring ambient for films is an altogether different approach as the purpose is to get the viewer feel the scene and situation through the music score. That of course applies to any score for films, ambient or not. Whereas when a piece can be composed independent of purpose or situation which is then purely for listening, there is a lot more room to drift away from convention and blend a mix of ideas. Interpretation of such a music piece can then be best left to the imagination of the listener.

Thanks for your appreciation and constructive feedback Tom. Well I had deliberately mixed the lead to be dominant in this one as I had not intended it to be a drum and bass track. But then yeah... I understand that when you are focused on the beats, you could miss the punch on them...

Love the suspended wet tones, gives it a nice spacy vibe. Personally, I could go for a bit more volume on the drums, especially the snare and claps. But it's very cool as is too. :)

Thanks Walt. Lets say I wanted the lead synth to truly take the lead all through, hence mellowed the percussive elements

Very nice Ramesh! Reminds me of an old fave, Patrick O'Hearn. I think you'd like his stuff. I can see how you could fall in love with that lead...it is pretty awesome. Regards, Dan

Thanks Dan. Also for the Patrick O'Hearn reference. Just listening to his haunting and captivating "Panning The Sands" ... awesome...
