Could the cakewalk download possibly be any slower?

seriously, don't know how it works out for you guys in the USA, but downloading stuff from the UK takes forever (like 20 hours for 2GB)

Bought the advanced video workshop a couple of weeks ago but haven't managed to keep my laptop switched on long enough to download it in full yet.

Surelly Cakewalk can get mirror download sites in Europe?

I hope they invest a bit in that, as they sell more and more large files on downloads.

Cheers,

Vinny

I think there might be a problem your end - I live in rural Oxfordshire with a slooooowwwwww bt broadband connection and I've never experienced times like that except when I download to a desktop with a wireless connection - my laptop also connected to the same network wirelessly works fine and quickly (relatively speaking)

Well, I did check that and don't think so.. I regularly upload / download very large files to our dropbox I share with my co-workers, have no problem at all downloading 2gb and more from other sites etc.

it is only when I try downloading from cakewalk that I have super slow speeds of 19kb/s or so.

I have tried both during day / night time, no luck, consistently slow..

trying again now

Cheers,

ok, maybe it is at my end. I also downloaded X1d pretty quickly though. it seems to be the bigger files (like 2.2gb for the video file) that i struggle to download. it is still going now bewtween download speeds of 19 to 50 kbs to download this file (maybe on a different server?) which is very, very slow. thanks for feedabck

I upgraded to the whole X1 bundle and was getting over 435 KB/s for the files over 2.5 gig.
And that was with BT.

Use a download manager and do it late at night. It won't be 4 minutes though for 2GB.

Pretty quick here despite living in deepest darkest Norfolk where telephone lines are just replacing tin cans and string. Life is a bit slow at the centre of the universe but not the downloads....

A 'tracert' to the url where the download resides will reveal a lot...

Sometimes with Cake you just catch a bad pipe. In those times I've just stopped the download and come back a couple of hours later and it zips through.

Two bongs don't make a pipe.

 Well,

afeter 12 hours of downloading, it timed out and stopped with only 945mb having downloaded.

so frustrating.

I've just checked again, I have some large video files on a UK server and tried downloading them. I am getting very fast download times on those.

I hope I'll manage to download these videos sometime.

maybe sky broadband (my ISP) doesn't like cake server.

hopefully, I'll "catch a good pipe"...

thanks

Cheers,

Whenever I get a slow D/L connection I just quit. I know it's good at my end but the way all the lines interconnect I might be trying to get stuff of of a mirror site in borneo.

Just assume it's somebody elses fault and just start and stop until you get a good line. Another issue I've had only with Cakewalk is the browser. When X1 first came out I couldn't D/L/ anything using IE, but a change to another browser fixed things right away.
