Could use some clarity on the Kingston, Rapture Session, Zeta+2 issue...

I've been off in my own little world since the release but casually monitoring the forum to see what's up with the Kingston release and softsynth updates. I really want to snag Kingston (and the synth updates) but I would just like to get some straight info on what's happening so I know how to proceed. I use offline install so any rollback stuff is a little more dicey for me and it sounds like it may not be the solution for these issues anyway (because it's not Kingston causing the problems).

1) So... what I've gathered is that the Zeta+2 completely replaces the older version. This causes old projects that use the old version of Zeta+2 to screw up somehow.

Is that True or false?

What exactly happens?

Is there a way to install the new Zeta+2 update and have it ONLY apply to new projects (thus leaving old projects that use it alone)?

Have the Baker's said there is a fix/workaround and where can I find the details on said fixes/workarounds?

2) Note: I do not own Rapture Pro. I do not have Cakewalk Sound Center as a synth in any of my projects. I DO however have Rapture inserted in some projects.

What I am gleaning is that the new Rapture Session replaces Cakewalk Sound Center. Based on my note above...

Does this affect my current installation of Cakewalk Sound Center and how it operates (like can I still use it if I want AND use Rapture Session as well)?

Will this affect my Rapture installation/patches (not Rapture Pro... which I do not own) or affect my projects that have Rapture in use?

What exactly IS the problem with the new Rapture Session? How does it manifest itself?

3) Are there any other significant issues with Kingston and/or any of the other new goodies in this set or downloads I should watch out for?

I am of course asking so I can get a better idea of how to navigate this update and it's subsets but also to hopefully get all the important insights/knowledge/etc that have been learned over the past week in one place.

It would be great if a Baker or two popped in as well now that the long weekend is over just to clear some of this stuff up for everyone. If not... c'est cool.

Kthnx... and I hope everyone's having a good day.

Cheers!

PS: The only third party effects/synths I use that did NOT come with Sonar (going back to X1 Production Suite) are... BFD Eco and Guitar Rig 5. I see other conflicts coming up. Those likely do not affect me.

Z3TA+2 works but it is not backwards compatible with projects, so don't install it. Issue is confirmed by Cakewalk.
Steps to repro and thread discussion here.

My view is Kingston has nothing to do with it. I don't have any project with Zeta 2 in it and I don't have any projects with Rapture Session in it. I don't have a project with Rapture pro in it either. Therefore it is not an issue with me.

If I did have a project with any of the above synths in it I would note what the patch was and do the update. I do often use Dim Pro and I haven't run into a problem with it.

There's a lot of info to be had in the Instruments forum.  Answers to several of your questions are top-of-the-list threads.

Keeeripes... well that's a big ole mess.

So, and seriously I am not that smart about this kind of stuff...

The 2.2 update is VST3... or at least forces itself to be VST3. That arsenoodles the VST2 instances in older projects somehow and inserts itself as VST3.

Umm... maybe they should just release the 2.2 version as NOT an update that wipes out/replaces the previous version but a totally separate installation that can be independentally inserted/used/etc?

But that's just the Zeta thing. I just won't install that (which I expected)... what about the rest?

Rapture Session requires Command Center to authenticate.
The only issue I am aware of with Kingston release is the noise issue with some synths. From what I can tell it is limited to some VST2 synths and disabling the 64bit Double Precision Engine in Preferences solves the problem.

Absolutely no offline install option? That's... kind of lame. Not sure what use RapSess will be to me but I would like to check it out. Maybe they'll sort that out for us offliners.

Sounds like a previous issue in X3 with one of the new plugs from back then. I forget which... TapeSim? That got fixed pretty quick IIRC. That's not great but doesn't sound like a huge deal.

    Thanks.

Yes, the 64bit DPE has been a problem before. I have it turned off in Preferences and enable it on bounce/export dialogs.

Another Kingston issue is that the VST scanner DLL seems to install latest or earlier versions depending on how lucky you are. No idea of the impact or the severity. For me I got the earlier one but it hasn't does not seem to caused trouble (appears it might have done for others).
