Coupla Bonehead Q's

Out of the game for a while...noise floor in the old tracking room was -30db, which sucked the oxygen and energy out of everything, so I hung it up till an ex found a stellar axe for my birthday...which started a 17 month upgrade that hung up just before Christmas when I failed to tame 22 snakes coming into a patchbay bolted to the console. On track there now, custom rolling patchbay rack wiring up real smooth, due to light fiber this week if all goes well.

Bro and sis dragged me down to Sanibel for family Christmas at Thanksgiving...just before departure, buying snakes (what else?) I came a cross a Travel Guitar I thought would make a perfect present for my bro, snagged one for me, and a wild hair was planted...why not trick out my laptop and capture some of my bro's guitar wizardry under palm fronds and sea breezes...thus was born the Mini/Remote studio I'm dabbling at now.

Running X2 Essential, with Studio and Producer in shrink wrap waiting for the Main to come up. Putting together covers/backing tracks to hone my chops and WD-40 arthritic fingers...and not quite sure how bad I'm cutting my throat.

Once X2 came up on the lappy, it kept asking me if I wanted to save audio in its own folder. Why sure....no sense hunting for it later on right? Every save is a Bundle if that makes any difference. Anyway, long about the second save...or opening...Sonar jumped me with an error message, Folder name already exists, no you may NOT open your project, go directly to jail, you will be shot at sunrise.

Mmmhmmm yer gonna have to catch me first...anyway, if I unchecked the Save Audio in its own Folder,  I was graciously allowed to open the project, been doing so ever since.

Multing vocals and guitar tracks, incrementing number attached to filename each save...Let It Be 15 becomes Let It Be 16...etc.

What kinda holes might I be digging in my future workflow roadway here? Am I overwriting audio from save 15 when I save variant 16? Or something even eviler I haven't thought of yet?

Also...when I upgraded to Producer I was awarded some kind of free attendance to Groove something or other...thought a registration key was in the email but it ain't now. How do I hook up with this Groove thing before it expires end of the month?

Tried to call support but those guys had a real rough night and are sleeping it off till like 1pm.

Any help?

    ???

    Speak English boy...

Create a folder for the song you are working on. Save your work as a Cakewalk Project. Save the audio in it's own folder. Do not save as a bundle. It takes too long to open and save bundles and they will use up a lot more hard drive space if you are saving multiple versions of the same song.

In the folder where you created your Cakewalk Project, you should see an "Audio" folder. that's where all the audio for the project is stored. If you want to save newer versions of your song you can add numbers to the project name so you have Song1.cwp, Song2.cwp, etc.

Don't use the bundle file format. That is only for transferring entire projects to another computer and they are known to be buggy. You want to save as Cakewalk Project File (extension .cwp) and select the option to save it in it's own audio folder so all the project info is in one place.

That said your writing style is interesting but it's a lot easier for us to help if you describe your problem more concisely so we can get to the heart of the issue. Add the colorful linguistic flourishes but for the actual problem try to keep it tight and neat. You'll get more help that way.

    Welcome to the forum. Cheers.

Groove 3 is an online service with instructional videos you can watch to learn how to operate Sonar or other DAWs. There are also videos about how to mix/master, use plug-ins and etc. You can log into the Cakewalk store and in your user area, there is a key for groove 3 there. That's if the promo is still available?

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.
