Couple new pieces of music

Hey Everyone,

Been a while since I've posted any new music in here (or posted anything in the support forums either for that matter... Sonar must be running good for me right now haha) so I figured I'd say hi and post something new!

I've been scoring some films, doing some freelance composing work, and put out some albums that feature my music, but my first album of fully instrumental music will be hopefully finished around December. Really excited to put it out and share it. If you're interested in hearing some of what I've been working on, you can check out:

If you do give me a listen (the first 4 tracks are all to be included on the album and are great representations of what I've been doing, although I'll probably still be doing a little work to them before the final release), I'd love to hear your thoughts/feedback. I'm going to spend a little time later checking out some of what you all have been posting too.

Thanks
David

Hi David.  You've been busy!  Nice work my friend.  I liked "Necessary Steps" and "Broken Circuits" best I think. So a few comments...

1 "Escape"... my least favorite among the bunch.  It seemed just a tad monotonous to me... I kept waiting for a key change or at least a major instrumentation change.  But the mix was great.

2 "Necessary Steps".. My favorite among the bunch!  I really like when that analog bass sound came in at 1:03, and I really liked your selection of synth voices on this one.  Again, great mix.

3 "Lights in the Sky"... Another good one.  I especially like the syncopation going on and your use of delays here.

4 "Broken Circuits"...  Good job on this one!  Definitely a soundtrack contender in my opinion (for whatever that's worth..lol)  Provokes kind of an eerie or suspenseful mood, and I like the way it seems to continually build.

5 "Trying"... Nice mix on this, but not my favorite.  Kind of moody.  Maybe my ear wanting to hear more variety of sounds??  Don't know if I can put my finger on it.

I'm liking the genre and direction you're going.  And my comments/opinions, along with 4 bucks, will get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks.  LOL

    Very cool stuff... make more!

    Cheers!

    Tony

    Haha thanks Tony

Yea been a busy dude. And over the past few months is when I've finally gotten a steady string of real, paying work, just in time to make it hard to finish my album but can't complain :-)

Appreciate your comments. I think you're probably right about "Escape" still needing some more variation. That's definitely one that I'm going to put some more work into. "The Necessary Steps" and "Broken Circuits" I pretty much consider "done" except for some final mixing/mastering. "Lights In The Sky" I haven't decided yet if I'm going to add more to or not, sometimes I feel like it could use something sometimes I think it's good as is. And "Trying" was actually a segment from a film I scored called "I Did" which should hopefully be making the festival rounds starting in a few months. It's a sad, somewhat dark drama, and in the context of the film it fits really well. When the film is out I'll post a link to where it can be seen :-)

    Thanks again for your comments!

Overall the songs are simple and slow moving meaning that they progress from one part to another slowly. A subdued and cinematic style. Nicely produced and mixed. Good arrangements. I liked "Necessary Steps" the best.

yea i think aside from some of the transitions i was doing in "Escape" that a lot of my music does have a kind of "deliberate" for lack of a better word movement from section to section. i like to create segments that build and build slowly and get bigger as they go to the climax. i suppose "cinematic" would be a good word... i certainly like that :-) thanks!

Hi David, I listened to the first two songs and thought that they would be useful in films and video production.  The mixes are good, so just keep writing and you'll find a market for this sooner or later.

    All the best,

Thanks Lynn! Appreciate the comments! Anyone whose interested I just posted another "new" track that's actually from 8 years ago. It's my birthday so I figured I'd post an old song to show how old I've gotten. :-) It's on the reverbnation link in the main post. My mixes have come a LONG way :-)
