Cover - Your Song

Hello everybody,

It's been a while since I made music and I know that I haven't been an active contributor to the song forum either…:-(

I just wanted to share this cover featuring my daughter (she is now 13 years old) on vocals.

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10421208

Thanks,
Fooming

WOW! ... What a voice and delivery.  Get this kid a record deal. You should be proud of your daughter and the mix.  KUDOS!

WOW!!  I totally agree with Kev. What a voice.  What a gift!  It's so great you could capture her voice.  She's fortunate to have a recording dad too.  :)  Wonderful!!!  :)

Thanks very much for the comments and words of encouragement! I’m humbled by the fact that anyone cared to provide feedback, given my own poor track record of doing the same on this forum. (One problem for me is that in China, where I live, several of the popular music host sites used by people here, including SoundClick, are blocked and can’t be readily accessed…)

Anyway, it is indeed a great fortune to be able to share my passion for music with my daughter. After finishing this song, she asked me: “Dad, what are we going to record next?”. Made me feel good.

    Thanks again for listening.

Yeah I'm asking the same thing... "What's next???"

Would you mind sharing your signal chain on the vocals (mic, preamp, etc)? The quality was amazing.

    Thanks Dave!

I'm not by my DAW now but I think it was Vintage Channel (the noise gate only), Perfect Space followed by Pro Channel for EQ and compression. I'll look it up when I'm back home.

The mic I use is a M-Audio Nova condenser microphone plugged directly into my sound card (also M-Audio).

    Thanks again,
    Fooming

Really nice. I enjoyed listening to this.

LOL! Actually, my room is completely untreated acoustically – bare concrete walls all around. I normally get a lot of rumble and noise through the microphone but somehow got lucky this time… :-)

she picked an excellent song to shine on.

i like the spacey treatment on the opening verse...
very nice reading on a classic tune, that still stands the test of time.

Another wow!  Beautiful voice.  In some places her voice seems to be fade out like around 1:00 amd 2:20.  However this is easily fixable using v-vocals.

Hi Fooming. Your daughter has a fantastic voice and this is and quite an accomplishment especially since it was recorded in a room with concrete walls. You're a great dad it's great you're so encouraging.
