Cover songs and royalties?
I find it a bit odd that there are links to so many cover songs here... and the royalties you guys must pay per play must be a lot... well if you have the rights to use the songs anyway.... and CW must have some big deals with the collection firms... I also wonder how I would feel if someone mangled my song and then renamed it to avoid royalty fees...? hum? how would you feel? But happy days for songwriters are coming... The tomorrows will be interesting... I mean how hard can it be to copy cloud links of cover songs and paste them on all the royalty collection facebook sites... ? The hit counters are rolling and they can't be deleted... I believe sound cloud is owned by a major record label... I wonder when they will cash out every cover song per play? Playing covers without paying royalties is still a crime right? or am I missing something?

Ah. So your weird lame trolling attempts didn't work out for ya and now you're making weird lame threats. What happened to that big heartfelt apology to the forum about a week ago? Yanno, the one where you said you would be a little more respectful to the forum and everyone graciously gave you the benefit of the doubt (including me). Also I don't think posting links to people's covers on the "royalty collection facebook sites" (lol) is going to get the result you think it will. BTW... I don't have any covers posted/released anywhere on the intertubes. I've just played on a few put together by other people. For someone who isn't mad you sure seem to be putting a lot of thought and effort into all this... and making multiple TOS violations in the process. You gonna threaten to call the police on Cakewalk again now? That was a classic.

I've recorded a few covers, but never for money. If my re-working became well-known enough to invite a lawsuit, I'd probably be flattered. And good luck getting blood from this stone. Hey, maybe that should be my new band name: "The Bloodless Stones?"

So... what are you saying? You saw a high comment CHC post and decided to troll it to get clicks on your own song? Wow. You almost got 20 whole listens out of the deal. You should be very proud.

Yeah, about those royalties... doesn't that somehow involve money? If so, has anyone here ever been paid directly from a cover song posted on SoundCloud? I only have one posted myself, but now I'm curious if I'm missing out on something...

Yeah, no kidding. Even a "cease and desist" or a measly "take down" would mean you're likely doing something right. lol BTW... been meaning to get back to you. Just been distracted/busy. Hope you're well.

Yea, I think that most bands let it go but there are some that go after everyone.. it's not about the cash it's about steeling... Metallica comes to mind... That is a really cool name! maybe for a song as well... you should grab the dot com... and run with it!

Years ago, i was friends with a band called "Tylenol 5 ( extra strange)." They got threatened with a lawsuit, so they changed their name. But they were thrilled to realize how well known they were. haha

Sound Cloud is making money, so yea... there is a cash flow, just like the radio... and once they get sued.. and people with account re read their user agreement and realize that they agreed to be responsible.... so yes...

i paid royalties (mechanical license) to Harry Fox agency for my 'bad moon rising' cover. that's the way you do it. the laws on selling covers is pretty straight forward. recording them for fun? who cares?

Here's a couple terms you may want to familiarize yourself with... Fair use Monetization Also I think you'll find the royalty agencies have more important things to do with their time than go after what amounts to the internet equivalent of a weekend garage band playing joke covers for fun. All you are doing, if you even get a reply, is hurting the bottom line of other musicians those agencies would otherwise be collecting royalties for (from ACTUAL criminal evaders of copyright law where REAL money is being lost). I'm sure this move will make you tons of new friends around here as well. So again... good luck with that.

So you are calling me a troll again... and NO the song went up way before I heard any of Coffee bands music... and really? I believe that negativity will be bad for ratings and sales... "Molly" was a test all along and I said so in my "un edited" post with the link to "Molly"... I am testing... Nothing has changed in my plan to release an unrelated song early next year... and I am mid, re mixing Molly and the help here is great!

Covers are only allowed to be posted in these forums if there is a mechanical license in place already, regardless of whether the person(s) posting the cover are making money on the streaming or not. this is cakewalk's policy. If you are a band who holds a copyright on a song which has been posted for streaming on this site, please contact cakewalk directly with your complaint including proof of your ownership of the song and proof that one of the forum members has violated the copyright by posting a streaming cover of your song. making a post in the forum complaining in general about covers without proof of mechanical license does not provide any benefit to you or to the rest of the community. If you have any other concerns, feel free to take it up directly with cakewalk.
