Cracking audio

I have been using P5 for awhile now but I keep getting cracking sounds when I add more than one or two instruments. I have Sonar and Live project with tons more tracks and instruments and have no problems. Any ideas I am just about ready to give up on this product so any help would be great.

Thanks,
John

Well...I may have found an answer. I installed the latest version of Z3ta and I think it is better. Maybe someone has had the same experience.

Johnny, sometimes increasing audio latency completely eliminates crackling noises in P5.

Go to Options-Audio and move the buffer size to 100 ms or so.

Hey John, you might also double-check to see if you are running a CPU that has hyper-threading enabled. If so try disabling hyper-threading. Some systems work fine with Project5 and hyperthreading, some do not. Just another thought for you which we've encountered here in the past.

Ok, thanks for the feedback. I dont think it is the latency. I have that all the way up in my sound card (Delta 44) and I am using Asio drivers. Regarding the hyperthreading I will check that. Do you know does Sonar work better with the hyperthreading on or off this may not be the forum for that. Just wondering.

    Thanks,

SONAR can utilize hyperthreading and multi-core and multi-cpu systems.

Project5's audio engine is not built in multi-threaded way that takes advantage of hyperthreading, multiple-cores, or multiple cpus. I do remember some statements from Cakewalk staff (this was a few years ago and I may be mistaken on my interpretation) that led me to be that the Project5 GUI and the Project5 audio engine might be in separate threads and thus separate from each other so that GUI might run on a different CPU than the engine--but the engine itself definitely does not spread its workload out across multiple threads.

Anyway, if you do have an Intel CPU with hyper-threading on try turning that feature off. Or if it is off try turning it on.
