Crackle in Sonar 8.5.3, Windows 7?

Getting crackle no matter how big/small the latency, bit depth -- just a lot of popping. No internet connection, disabled antivirus etc, no webcam. It's not the mixer, compressor etc - I plugged everything into an XP laptop running 8.5.3 - no crackle. Specs:

Windows 7 Home Premium (x64)
gigahertz Intel Core i3 M 380
64-bit ready
Multi-core (2 total)
Hyper-threaded (4 total)

Any ideas? I vaguely remember on the XP laptop I had to tell Sonar the laptop had a dual core - anything like that I have to do on a core i3? Thanks.

You didn't list your audio source or the type of audio drivers you're using!? Are you using the built-in audio or an external audio interface?

Sorry, an external interface, Edirol UM-1EX. Installed fine on the Win 7 machine, plays soft synths fine, records fine on the XP machine.

Have you got a WLAN adapter on puter, turn it off as a start.

If still problem get a DPC latency meter software that measure how long different drivers a holding on the commin bus in puter.

Thanks very much. It was the WLAN adapter (confirmed by the latency meter). You've saved me from pulling out the little hair I have left.
