Crackle/Pop when moving windows
I'm currently using SHS 7 with a Line 6 KB37 and a PC with more than enough processing power and RAM to handle my small track counts. The issue I'm having is, every time I move a window within SHS 7 during playback, I get an audible crackling/popping noise. It only happens as I'm dragging the window. I've had no other issues with the KB37 interface, so I'm down to thinking it may be a software and/or driver problem. Anyone else have similar issues? Thanks!

that's possibly a problem with your video. what video card do you have or are you using your motherboard's onboard video? what are the rest of your computer specs also? and your operating system?

Try turning down your video acceleration settings in Windows Display Properties.

Hi i,m having the same problem as Micheal with moving my windows but i tried to lower the hardware acc'but the trobleshooting window tells me that i can't change it because the current driver does not allow the change. Do i need to update my video card driver,(Geforce 8600m gt)if yes were do i get it? im running a Dell inspiron 1720 4Gb ram. Daw is Sonar home studio 7XL, Windows vista. 32bit. sometime the audio pops on playback even when i don't move enything. could that be another problem besides the vidoe accelorator? Thank you.........

if it's happening at times when you're not moving anything then that's not a video driver or accelerator problem. what soundard are you using and what driver mode and latency are you running?

I got a line 6 tuneport ux8 , in audio options i got 44100 Sample rate mixing latency is fast 11.6 msec then when i go to ASIO panel the sample rate coverter is one notch to the right audio is 512 default buffer size and 24 bit default bit depth. is that what you ment by driver mode??

is that what you ment by driver mode?? No, but saying you opened the ASIO panel means you're using ASIO driver mode. Pops and other noises can sometimes be caused by other programs running, like anti-virus programs.

Try setting latency as long as possible and see if that fixes it. If yes then you can start to speed it up again until it comes back. I've used laptops for recording, but I think if you have several tracks and effects running then the laptop may start to sputter again.

I have got it all the way to the right still got pops. i am running a project to mix and there is three tracks with amplitube and 2tracks with gearbox i think that is the problem but there must be a better way to mix then having to freez and unfreez the tracks to mix fade, pan...ect...

If you bounce the effected tracks to another track, that will remove the effects and their load on the processor from the processor. Then archive the original tracks in case you want to work with them again at some time in the future.

57Gregy - That's effectively the same thing as freezing and unfreezing.... but more work. ;-) chico11 - Hmmm, that used to work for me with an older machine. Sounds like you're on the right track but I'm hoping someone else will chime in on reducing processor load so you don't have to keep freezing tracks.

there's some conflicting statements coming from chico here. if he's in ASIO mode then he can't move the latency slider all the way to the right because the latency slider will be greyed out. if he's in WDM or MME driver mode then he's, obviously, not in ASIO mode as requested by other members. chico - look at OPTIONS>AUDIO it tells you which driver mode you're in by whichever one is selected when you open that window. is it ASIO, WDM, MME, WASAPI or what?

Hi when i look in OPTIONS>AUDIO widow called audio options - ASIO then on the bottom left hand side in general tab there is a button that is called ASIO Panle...., when i click on that there is another window that pops up that is called line 6 audio- MIDI Devices - 3,42 that is were i slide the slider for my buffer size. the audio options- ASIO has playback timing master --1:ASIO TONEPORT UX8 1-2 record timing master--1:ASIO TONEPORT UX8 1-2 AND SO ON........... The part that is grayed out is my mixing latency in the 1st window.

OK, that makes more sense. I did not know the toneport had a slider for latency. do you have a webcam or wireless internet card on here? turn those off. what else do you have on this computer? what are your comptuer specs? what processor speed, RAM? OS, what size and speed hard drives are you using? is your audio being recorded on your same drive as the operating system?

I have the webcam disabled, the wifi disabled, and my internal soundcard to. -my prossesor is Intel core 2 duo cpu t7250@2.00GHz 4gb of ram. -i run widows vista 32 bit service pack 2 -internal hard drive is 5400RPM 250gb western digital. -external hard drive is 7200RPM 1tb seagate 1.5Gbps -in the resource overview i got a meter that sais 35% used physical memory. my external hard drive is new so i am useing it to store my project and run them from there. but i used to run them from my internal hard drive and i was having the same problem. i also have another screen connected to my laptop. For other programs that are running? i don't know how to find them if ther running or not. i hope this helps.....

your internal hard drive is only 5400rpm and that could easily cause this problem. your external 7200rpm SATA shouldn't have that problem, tho. you say you're "storing" your project on the external - have you actually changed the settings in sonar for your projects to be located there? if not, then you're still using the internal to record to.
