In the video Craig has addictive drums play to the audio track after he does the tempo thing , how does he set addictive drums up to do that ?

I assume he had a basic MIDI drum track already set up.

I have to check this "up-sampling" thing out. Sounds really promising. The ability to improve the sound of your samples? Could be a game changer.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm but that isn't what upsampling does.

Definitely not sarcasm. Not sure why you would think that. I guess I just misunderstood it. Sorry if my ability to grasp complex audio technology isn't up to your specifications. (And I am not being sarcastic here either. Just tired of being devalued by people who, because they know more, attribute ulterior motives where there are none).

I wouldn't dare to "devalue" you! If I gave that impression I'm sorry. I really just couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or making a joke. The upsampling feature is supposed to prevent foldback distortion (basically unwanted noise/sound) that occurs when you process audio that has a lot high frequency in it (or an effect plug in that generates it). Despite the name, it doesn't really "improve" your samples.

Wow, thanks!!! All those positive comments make my day. (The video even inspired a "guest appearance" in the video's Comments section from our favorite multi-alt troll, so I guess it's getting out there!)

These comments, and the positive ones about the recent "tip of the week" videos, are inspiring me to get back into doing more videos like I did with the Advanced Workshop series. It's something Cakewalk has wanted me to do, and even Henry Juszkiewicz has expressed a desire for me to do more recording-related videos. So I guess I'll be firing up Vegas a lot more... too bad they take so much time, or I'd be cranking out more.

Also, FWIW I didn't get a promotion; when I signed on to Gibson it was as an Executive Vice-President. Mitch was talking more in terms of my career as a whole and how now I'm an EVP at Gibson. Gibson has been a very good "fit" for me, it's a unique situation and there are some real advantages to working with a bunch of cool people instead of being more of a "hired gun." I figured I'd stay here for a year or two, learn what I could, and move on, but now I want to stay here as long as I can.

Thanks again for all the positive feedback, I consider you my peers and so it means just that much more.

Context and nuance are not the strong points of a text-only medium. And unfortunately, there are no "language police" who set definitions. Just think how many meanings "loop" has..."sample" is another one of those terms that's not all that well-defined. I guess technically speaking in a supernerd context, although I know this isn't what you meant by "samples," "upsampling" does improve the sound of your "samples" (as in, the individual samples that make up a piece of digital audio) because they're not reproducing foldover distortion any more.

To get back to the original point though, unfortunately upsampling does not improve the sound of audio that already contains foldover distortion. It can only prevent audio from acquiring foldover distortion.

Sanderexpander is cool. It's easy for misunderstandings to happen in a text-only medium. We've just seen a...uh..."sample" of that in action.

Seriously though, this thread is making me realize I REALLY need to do more videos. People really liked the Advanced Workshop videos, and there's a lot of new stuff to explore since then.
