Craig Anderton update killed Sonar

I just installed the new Sonar Braintree update. First I updated Sonar, then downloaded Bark of Dog, and up till then Sonar seemed to be working. After I downloaded the new Craig Anderton Collection update, Sonar (Platinum) now crashes about 10 seconds after launch, before I can do anything. I tried reinstalling the Craig Anderton collection, but that didn't fix anything. My old Sonar X3 installation works fine. Is there a way to roll back the Craig Anderton stuff or reinstall Platinum? The Command Center doesn't seem to have any such options.

My system: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Mac Pro 2008 with Boot Camp
RME RayDat PCI-E sound card
6GB RAM
Thank you, Shayne

Just uninstalled Sonar Platinum via "Programs and Features" in Control Panel, rebooted system, reinstalled Sonar, and it still doesn't work.

You might have waited for some help. Craig's fx chains can't have any effect on Sonars code, it doesn't use or change any of it.

Perhaps there was something else at work. Shame you did all the uninstall processes as The Command centre allows you roll back to an earlier version.

Well I just found the setup file for the pre-Braintree version of Sonar Platinum still on my hard drive, rolled back and now everything is working again. I don't know what's wrong with the Braintree update, but I should probably let Cakewalk support know what happened....

Perhaps it's worth trying it again. I've been frantically following all the comments about the Braintree update and haven't seen anyone with your problem.

Now you know how to roll back relatively easily if need be and then notify Cakewalk.

Is it possible this has something to do with cancelling the AutoScan on startup mid-stream?

I had a case where I launched Sonar without my interface on. As soon as I realized it <got the message box telling me so> I switched it on, but as we all know, it's too late then. So as the scanner ramps up to scan my plugs, I kill Sonar to re-launch.

After relaunching, it did not re-scan and plugs as simple as Channel Tools showed up missing in the project.

After a restart of the PC, the scan kicked off and ran to the end smoothly. This fixed things for me.

Noel asks why you wouldn't have scan on startup enabled, and this is why for me. It's not worth the trouble if it can force you to restart your PC.

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

GS: I hate having scan at startup enabled.  It takes long enough to load in my projects (I use mostly VSTi's with large sample sets).  Therefore, scan VSTs at startup is a NO GO for me.

I do a manual scan after installing new VSTs and this works out fine.

That is correct. The FX Chains are basically just documents. So my update did not kill SONAR, but the thread title makes me look like a badass who can kill programs at will, so that's kinda cool

The VST scanner works in the background and with well over a thousand plugs (Komplete Ultimate, Waves Horizon, FabFilter Total and a bunch of singles) it takes seconds. Not to mention you don't even have to wait for it. Just saying. Sorry you're having troubles.

If I have NOT installed any new VSTs the autoscan takes about 3-5 seconds on startup of SONAR

When a typically rational guy like scook is annoyed by the process it is time for Cakewalk to seriously evaluate things. I have no idea anymore what is missing from my account anymore.

I think it's obvious this is something Cakewalk will need to address. I guess I just have more faith than others that it will be addressed, but it wouldn't have been if a "typically rational guy" like scook didn't say "yo, we have a problem here" or words to that effect.

If something goes wrong Anderton is to blame :)
Seriously if you are crashing in the first couple of seconds its possibly a similar issue that one or two people had where their account status was invalid. If you recently cancelled your membership and renewed very shortly later there was a glitch where it thinks that you are not an active member. You should contact support on Monday and they will help you with that if so. If you can upload your crash dump somewhere and pm me the link I can check if that is the issue.

Regarding VST scanning, again its a complete misconception that having automatic scanning on slows down the load of SONAR. For one, if you have the default SONAR scan options it will only ever load newly added plugins. This should take literally 2-3 seconds if there are no new plugs to go through the list even if you have a 1000 plugins since its doing very little work and just comparing time stamps.
You should never turn on the option to rescan failed plugins and rescan existing (unless you are troubleshooting something) since those options waste time loading and rebuilding the inventory every time.
Even when scanning plugins keep in mind that the task is performed by the scanner in a different process, so it will NOT impact the startup time of SONAR. I have all the waves plugins installed on my system and SONAR launches in 2 seconds so it has nothing to do with scan being on.

Regarding how past updates would be delivered in the future - My understanding was that all older content updates would continue be available to customers via command center even in the future. i.e there should be no need to manually back them up on your machine. Of course new members who join later may not have access to prior monthly updates if they were exclusive to that month.

Hi I was at work yesterday and wasn't able to respond to all the replies. I haven't deactivated and reactivated my account, I installed everything through Command Center, so Sonar should be activated. However, I looked at the "About" box and saw that there was nothing listed under "Account Name" (this is using the pre-Braintree version of Sonar Platinum, since the update continues to crash). Is this part of the issue? How can I get my account details into Sonar?

I think Noel is right, it is an activation issue because Sonar is now telling me that I'm running it in demo mode and my subscription has expired. (It hasn't -- I paid up on 2/23.) I just installed the Braintree update again and instead of crashing after 10 seconds it pops up a notification saying that it's in demo mode. It appears to have been a coincidence that it didn't start having problems with activation until just after installing the Anderton update. (Though you can still be a badass killer if you want to, Craig.)

Hopefully I can get it worked out with Cakewalk support this week. Thanks for your help guys. :)

So Craig has killed?  Sounds like he now has the credentials to be a Hip Hop artist.  Better start workin' on some sick beats and a new stage name with more street cred, Craig.
