Crash after crash ever since upgrading to Platinum from X3

Is the special offer for Platinum with lifetime upgrades supposed to compensate for an unstable product?  My Sonar X3 was rock solid, but ever since installing Platinum (and all the upgrades) Sonar keeps crashing.  Sometimes immediately after exporting a mix to wav, other times just after starting Sonar, and sometimes when dropping effects into ProChannel.  I'm very disappointed to say the least.  My computer is running Windows 10 and has 32 gigs of RAM.

Sonar Platinum crashing regularly is definitely not the typical experience of a Sonar Platinum user (if it was, this forum would explode).

Some information we need to help you resolve this issue.

    · Version and build number of your Sonar Platinum.
    · Your full machine specifications
    · Make, model and manufacturer of your audio interface.
    · Is your machine fully patched?
    · Have you updated the drivers of all your hardware (This is best done by going to the actual manufacturer's website   rather then letting Microsoft do it.)
    · Are you using the latest version of all your VST plugins.

You will get many suggestions from the forum members here to help you resolve this.  I am confident that a solution to your Platinum crashing issues can be found.

    Windows 10 64bit fully patched, 16 gig ram .

Windows 10 Professional 64 bit with Intel i7-3770 CPU @3.4 GHz and 32 GB or RAM.  It's up to date with all updates.  Interface is Roland Studio Capture.

I downloaded and installed Platinum with all updates last night.

are you still using the external usb 3 drive ?
that could potentially cause a crash right there if your using a non supported usb 3 port.
I remember you had a thread a while back saying you were crashing in x3 as well.
    so I would check everything.

running platinum here, more solid then any other version of sonar ever.
very happy. hope you get it worked out.

No, I'm not using an external drive.  I only do that when I'm running from my laptop at a rehearsal studio.  My desktop has three internal hard-drives.  X3 was crashing back then due to the external drive being connected to a USB 2.0 port instead of 3.0.  Still, after recording about ten takes of drums, Sonar X3 would start crashing on the laptop.  In the future, I'll be recording 44.1 and 16 bit since the laptop with the external drive can't handle the higher rates after multiple takes.

The crashing problem with my desktop could be due to the fact that I'm running a few other software programs at the same time.  When it crashes, it creates a dump file somewhere, but I wouldn't know what to look for.

There should be a log of the crashes.  If you could post what the last log says that may help.

Where would I find those logs?

    wdmaud.drv C:\Windows\System32\wdmaud.drv 10.0.10586.0
are you using ASIO for your audio card Drivers ?

also keep in mind for the Studio Capture windows 10 driver:
This product cannot be used with a USB 3.0 port that is not compatible with USB 2.0 specification.
so if your plugged in to a USB 3 port, try using a USB 2.0
I know it may seem like im on to the USB 3 thing but it is important and will reek havoc.

    Yes, I am.

edited my earlier post to add more info.
I believe (but not positive) the wdmaud.drv  indicates your system is using a WDM driver for something which could possibly cause a conflict. can you think of any other programs your using that is sharing / using WDM ?

there is the option in sonar to use but you should be using ASIO and the supplied driver from Roland.
I believe its this one: http://www.roland.com/support/by_product/studio-capture/updates_drivers/350780

what I did not see in this log was "Asio". so give a double check for that and double check your not in a usb 3 port.

Do you happen to have Windows Default Audio Device set to use your audio interface's ASIO drivers?

Do the crashes happen to the same project, or to multiple projects?

If you take a failing project and open it in Sonar's Safe Mode - and skip the loading of ALL effects plugins, does the project still fail? (Don't save the project this way - it is just to test to see if something with the effects is causing the issues)

Is there any set of steps you can suggest we try to see if we can replicate the issue on our computers?

I'm using Roland's driver for the Studio Capture.  Worked fine with X3.  Crashing is only happening with one project so far.  I don't have time to do much troubleshooting.  The project is not very big.  Only has about 16 tracks, no midi, not using tons of effects, all real analog instruments.  Recorded at 48k 24bit.

Hi. I just wondered which 3rd party plugins you might be using? It could be an issue with a plugin of some sort?
    All the best.

I'm only using whatever comes with Sonar Platinum. Nothing else.

Have you submitted any crash dumps? If you list the CWBRN number we may be able to see whats causing the crash for you.

After some of the crashes, a dialog pops up telling me that the crash is going to be sent to Cakewalk. It says I can enter my email address to be notified so I submit it.  Then there's a link to view the error submission on the site in my account, but when I click the link it takes me to Cakewalk's site and says there are no incidents.  Obviously this process has not been fleshed out yet.

All three crashes are in Softube's SaturationKnob.dll which is a prochannel module.
We can pass this info on to the developer but it will be useful if you attach the project file in question to one of the bug reports. There may be something specific about that project that causes is to crash.

To get past the crash you may be able to load the project in safe mode and skip that plugin.

    I believe right here:
    https://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Contact/Problem-Report
just make sure you are logged in and fill out the details.
(there's a way to attach the project file at the end of the report.)
you most likely don't need the audio, just the project file itself.
good luck man, make great music !
