Crash in Platinum but no crash in X3
Friends, In the same computer, Sonar Platinum is crashing (and also crashing Quad-Capture), but Sonar X3, (if started before Platinum) is working fine... So I can play all the soft Synths, open and work with X3, but when I try Platinum (that was working ok until now) it will crash. After the crash, it will open the Welcome screen, that does not work, and then I have to shut down the computer and reinstall Quad Capture... Any ideas? Windows 10 16GB Ram intel i7 Quad-Capture Thanks

Steps to reproduce please and that is the exact error message. We don't have a lot to go on. Check windows event viewer. You can also rule out a problem plugin by using Sonar safe mode Don't forget to update to Ipswitch Update 1 (only recently released). Thanks..

Thanks Doctor Avalanche, So, when I try to open Sonar Platinum I receive the following: "There are no audio devices for the current driver model on your system. Please go to Edit..." I click ok and then another message saying: "the Master track is assigned to a silent hardware output..." I click ok and then: "SONARPLT.exe has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly..." I click close the program. It exits and then... opens the Start page that, of course, is not working. After this, if I try to play a soft synth standalone (Native Instruments, or Arturia) the Asio driver is not working. When I restart, I can play the soft synths, Sonar X3e, everything... until I open Sonar Platinum and everything will happen again! And Sonar has the September update. Thanks,

The last two releases were in Sept. Please check CCC and upgrade where necessary.
The error message is pointing to audio interface.
Please update audio interface firmware and drivers. Also go to intel driver update site. Finally update your motherboard BIOS. Updating your display adapter is a good idea as well.
If you have ASIO4ALL remove it. In windows control panel sounds disable the audio interface. Avoid running other software when using Sonar.

I have the latest Sonar Platinum upgrade already. And if on the same computer, Sonar X3 is running ok, and all the soft synths are also ok, it can't be the audio interface. Right?

So you are confirming you are on Ipswith Update 1It absolutely can be the audio interface. As I said the error message points to it. Just because it works on X3 does not rule it out as a problem. This is a common misconception. In addition to what I wrote earlier you might want to try toggling the share devices settings: https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR%20X3&language=3&help=AudioPerformance.28.html Cheers..

I am having almost identical issues. I have a firewire interface instead of usb but the symptoms are the same. What I found to be happening to me was that Sonar was having a difficult time getting the sample rate to change from project to project. As soon a s I would open an older project where I used a higher sample rate for instance Sonar would hang and I could watch the lights flash and the sample rate flicking back and forth on the interface. I finally just switched from Asio to Wdm and it solved the problem. My interface recommends ASIO but it just doesn't seem to like Windows 10 or the latest Sonar version ,or both.

it does make one wonder, with audio driver handling being such a low-level requirement in any daw, what could have changed between versions in the way the daw handles the driver, what was wrong with the x3 implementation? maybe someone from cakewalk could comment what changes were made?

All Software has dependencies. It's a complex scenario but please take it as a given that bugs in drivers can be exposed in later versions. This X3 thing is a total red herring you need to look at the actual issue in front of you. Quadcapture issues keep cropping up over and over again this isn't old ground. The issue is to do with the interface itself. Let's not distract the OP from this.

learn how to do basic troubleshooting, doktor - whether it turns out to be the driver or sonar or something else, one can only discover the cause through a process of elimination, so disimissing x3 right off the bat is frankly a bizarre suggestion

And what does X3 working and Platinum not working help you eliminate exactly? There is absolutely no relationship going on here they are entirely seperate codebases. What the issue is pointing to (screaming out loud) is the interface itself (ie the error message in front of the nose), therefore the attributes around the audio interface obviously needs to be eliminated first (see my first three posts) and the settings may need to be reviewed in Sonar preferences. Other's aren't having these issues so do the math.

I'm sorry that none of you understand about software dependencies. Maybe check out this thread for more info, check Cakewalks comment and my example: http://forum.cakewalk.com...289549&p=1&p=3The error message and the clear symptom is the real issue, the point where the process of elimination should start, the X3 thing is a total red herring sorry. If there was a big bug in Platinum and how it handles drivers, half the forum would be screaming about the same issue by now.

In windows sounds you might want to set your internal sound chip to default (you will still need to route the sound afterwards), and disable your audio interface. Or just disable all the interfaces in there (side effect is no sound in windows). Lots of options anyway looks like you have chosen what is suitable for you...

Just buy a lead, one end get the output of your soundcard, the other end get the inputs of your saffire pro 24 at the back. Then set up mix control accordingly. That is assuming you have a couple of free inputs. I do this with my pro 40, if I need the inputs for recording I unplug them temporarily.

i did; i suggest you do the same, and maybe even read it a 2nd or 3rd time, sometimes that helps? maybe you'll notice that i said the same as noel - it's a process of elimination? Doktor Avalanche as clearly you aren't going to pay any attention to what I have to say,
bingo! can we go home now? Doktor Avalanche your assumptions are totally way off. You can't rule out anything whatsoever just because something "works" with other software. It is just is not that simple.
i didn't make any assumptions, that's your job; i merely suggested that immediately assuming it's not sonar (which, as it turned out, it was: the aud.ini file) is bad advice cheers etc

AUD.INI is the driver configuration file where the audio interface gets configured, it is NOT the Sonar application code. I said all along the issue was pointing towards the interface itself or the way it is configured (in Sonar preferences). I had already said " the settings may need to be reviewed in Sonar preferences." and all along I said this was pointing towards the audio interface. At which point along the chain it was yet to be worked out at that stage. I did not jump to your conclusions... pwalpwal it does make one wonder, with audio driver handling being such a low-level requirement in any daw, what could have changed between versions in the way the daw handles the driver, what was wrong with the x3 implementation? maybe someone from cakewalk could comment what changes were made?

now there's a distinction you never made before... tell me, is aud.ini a part of the sonar installation? does it affect how sonar uses the device driver? do you get out much?
