Crash in X3 - odd behaviour followed by white screen
I had started a small project started in X3- 2 tracks, 18 bars long so far. EZdrummer as a SIT, and a Nylon Guitar recorded on an audio track. I had cloned the audio track which had melodyne as a region FX, and also Guitar Rig 5 in an FX Chain. Removed Region FX from cloned track. I noticed that Guitar Rig 5 now appeared in the Synth Rack below EZdrummer, with a blank space (the height of a synth) between them. Odd... I deleted the FX Chain from the original Audio track, but as I deleted the FX Chain from the cloned track, Sonar crashed. It sent a report off to Cake - CWBRN-20802 just before Sonar crashed, I noticed that odd graphic thing where the Ca2a module in the PC appears to have two title bars.

Noel made a comment the other day about the synth rack with GR http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/2914947 I have noticed similar behavior with cloning an audio track with Melodyne active on that track, but it hasn't crashed X3b on me (yet). The "blank" synth is indeed rather odd... I am bookmarking this thread.

Yes, I saw the GR in synth rack thread. I thought the "blank synth" thing was weird. What was the similar behaviour that you noticed? I have seen that cloning a track with Melodyne didn't clone the edits in Melodyne. Thanks for posting your thoughts.

I just sat down to try to replicate what you described, and I cannot. I took a single vocal track, threw in GR5, another FX chain, and did a region FX on the entire clip (30 seconds). Next, I cloned the track, the Melodyne edits did not copy, and the "view" of Melodyne shifted as well (from basically 2 octaves to almost a "fit to window mode"). I then removed the region FX, FX chain, two other effects, and finally GR5. I did not have an issue doing this. I did not get the "blank synth" slot either. The issues I have been having with Melodyne (and some are posted) when using in ARA mode: 1) Edits do not save when a project is saved (although I think a couple times it did, but is not "reliable")... there is a thread on this. 2) Cloning any track with Melodyne in the Region FX does not clone the Region FX. 3) Melodyne always initially tells me I need 1024 samples for the buffer (which I do), but this then goes away as long as I do not close SONAR (i.e. I only get this on the initial Melodyne instance after SONAR is opened). I can close/open projects, etc. and not see this message again as long as SONAR remains open. 4) Melodyne shifted its default view in the cloned track. However, I did not delve deeply enough to see "how much" is different. As I put in another thread, ARA sounds awesome in theory, but there is a lot of handshaking needed to make it "seamless," and to me it is not. Flip side to this... Melodyne Editor functions "as designed" in stand alone mode... but in ARA mode it has gaps that limit its usefulness. Michael

Thanks for trying, Michael Maybe it has something to do with SITs - who knows? I'll have a play around tomorrow. Jonathan.

Not a problem. Since Melodyne is new to me, I have been running it in stand-alone mode a lot just so I can learn its functionality well without have to sort out what is Melodyne, ARA, or SONAR. In stand-alone mode, I can easily modify and save audio (preferably as clean as possible with no effects), then import that into SONAR to do the mixing. When using in ARA mode, it will not save changes so that the Region FX can be removed, which is what I would prefer. With several instances running, it does start to get CPU-intensive. Michael

I use bounce to clips, which seems to do the job, or am I misunderstanding you? Quite possible, as I'm suffering from sleep depravation. I will try to reproduce it tonight, when I get time. That project is working okay. Thank goodness that I'm paranoid about saving. Problem report is marked as "Submitted to Development". Thanks again for your input.

I have not tried the bouncing yet, but even in the Melodyne manual it recommends this as well. So that worked to both "preserve edits" and allow the track with the Region FX to be muted? I will have to start using Melodyne inside SONAR again soon, so I can get a full list of "what works well" and "what doesn't."

If you bounce to tracks it will leave the original track. If I'm happy with the edits I might bounce to clip, which just turns the region effect clip into an ordinary clip, but you can't go back - it is destructive.
It is worth using Melodyne in Sonar, IMHO, as the ARA integration is amazing.

Had a quick play, it's reproducible consistently, but doesn't involve Melodyne. Anyone please try this: New project:- Insert Audio Track Insert an FX Chain module in ProChannel Add Guitar Rig to module Clone track Remove FX Chain Module from the cloned track (track 2) first Remove FX Chain Module from original track (track 1) and crash.. Every time. Anyone reproduce please? I may change title of thread to echo this.
