Crashes

Hi all, been using cakewalk for decades and haven't had many problems since the first year. When the demise of the company came to my attention, I used command center to update and download everything I was entitled to. Since then about half my MIDI songs crash and make a mini dump.Happens on both my ASUS Laptop and my ASUS desk top I built myself. The projects in question will load in safe mode but not otherwise. I went into plug-in manager and disabled all plugins....same problem. When I try to disable Direct x media objects I get a pop up saying the dll can't be found in the registry so I'm thinking the problem is here, but I don't know. To re-state, these have midi only, no audio.
Any help on tracking this down would be appreciated. I have a previous Acronis Image I can revert to if it comes to that, but I would like to solve the problem if I can!
thanks again

Have you tried Cakewalk by Bandlab yet? On my computer it's been more stable than Platinum. If Cakewalk by Bandlab crashes, if I were you I'd revert to an earlier image. Many times that much quicker than troubleshooting, especially because sometimes it's an OS corruption that's really difficult to fix.

Since they load in safe mode (do they play fine as well?) have you tried enabling plugins that you were using to see if one of those dumps you out? It is very possible that you have a plugin that has gone awry on you. If that is the case, it is probably the first one that comes to mind for you if half of your projects are affected. Depending how old they are, a 32-bit or DX plugin may be the culprit. Take one of the simplest projects you have that is affected and dissect the plugins on it.

Do your projects crash upon opening a project or upon playing?

If they open successfully, hit 'e' to bypass all Fx before attempting to play

Then in an undocked Synth View, use the power button to disconnect all synths

You can then re-enable them one at a time and hopefully, nail the offendor

Thanks so much, They play fine in safe mode. The crash is upon opening. The weird thing is, there are no plugins in any of the projects! Strictly MIDI tracks. I compared one that would open to one that won't, and I see no difference. No correlation between how old they are or whether I sequenced them or came from someone else. I use sonar on stage and luckily I was able to do the show with half my songs.

I get a window that says
    Error-Unhandled Exception
    Exception code:  c0000005
    Address:
    00000001408cd126:0000000000000000:0000000000000065

My research says it's a registry problem. Is there a de-bugging tool that is recommended for this? I'm thinking it has something to do with my inability to disable the Direct X Media Objects from within the Plug-in Manager??? the window says they couldn't be found in the registry.

I just checked and command center is still operational. I could try re-installing? It's curious that it happened to both computers. Makes me think it wasn't a corrupted install..........

Have you tried running CbB as administrator?

Quite often, registry issues are down to "standard" users not having sufficient access to certain registry keys - running as administrator usually fixes this.

Post a link to the minidump and I can look at it. Which version of SONAR are you using? Its very possible that the issue was already addressed in a later update.

First thing you should do is bring both Windows and Sonar up to date. Bugs like this were addressed and the last release was pretty stable.
You just said "if it aint broke" which it seems to be.

Thanks, I apologize if I wasn't clear in the original post. This all started when I recently updated both computers.
