Crashing problem (posted prior in incorrect forum) *** solved ***
First...my stuff: Computer: Intel Core i7-2600k 3.4 GHz (quad core), 16 GB ram Windows 7 Pro, Service pack 1 (64 bit) SONAR X1 Production Suite (64 bit installation) PC4k S-Type Channel Compressor Dimension Pro 1.5 (incl w SONAR X1) Guitar Rig 4 LE ProChannel Module 1 (Gate) Z3TA 2 IO: MOTU 24IO, MOTU 2408, MOTU MTPAV Problem: Double clicking the track inspector for a Midi track always crashes Sonar. It doesn't matter whether I turn off everything from displaying - double clicking the empty track inspector still crashes Sonar. Also when you turn on Pro Channel it puts blank space between the FX bin (or whatever is below the gain knob) and the gain knob. Seems like a waste to have the gain knob hanging up above empty space. Maybe that's normal I don't know. Also I don't see the PC4K Gate but maybe i am not looking in the right place. Also some menus are always greyed out (possibly unrelated) Process>Apply Effects>Audio Effects Process>Apply Effects> MIDI Effects (I tried selecting audio and midi clips etc, but the menus are always grey) I would be more help if I had had the SW for more than a few days. Then at least I would be able to tell if something is not 'normal'.

Also I have installed the patched X1c and X1d. The splash screen show X1 Producer X1d build 533.

I think that extra space is for one of the other PC modules. Maybe the saturation knob. Anyway I think that is some pretty odd behavior. Take a look at the help tutorials just to make sure everything is set up properly and get an idea of what does what. If you haven't done a system optimization maybe give that a try (USB ports might be going to sleep or something). Be sure you are using the right driver setting and have other settings set up properly. Check your buffer. Stuff like that. If you can't get it working by monday maybe try to give Cake support a call to see if they can help. Good luck.

Also I find weekends are a little slow here on the forum so don't get frustrated if you don't get a slew of answers here just yet. The people with real lives are off doing meatworld stuff. Cheers.

Thanks Beepster What would the 'right driver setting' be? And driver for what? Audio Hardware? This is a completely fresh install. Downloaded everything in the last week or so. I tried to grab the latest of everything. What buffer are you referring to?

New Information: I can't be 100% sure but from looking at the PC4K pictures on the Sonar web pages, I do not have the PC4K stuff showing up in prochannel. Just the regular prochannel stuff. Right clicking does not give a menu that allows a selection of any sort. I have them installed. Do I access them a different way?

Generally you'll want to use ASIO but read the MOTU manuals to see what they say. If you aren't sure about how to change this setting then you DEFINITELY need to read the X1 help menu tutorials. They're not hard to work through but give tons of important information. If you don't know the little ways X1 does stuff you're gonna be lost. Also in ASIO mode you can only use one interface at a time. If you want to use more than one you can connect the interfaces via optical to expand your channel options but the main device attached to your computer will be the one using the driver. Again refer to the MOTU manuals on how to do this (if it is even possible with those devices). The buffer I am referring to is in Edit > Preferences > Drivers and at the bottom of the screen you should see a slider and some other settings. You can usually adjust your buffer through your interfaces software as well. If you increase the buffer it uses less CPU resources which will make stuff more stable but the drawback is it increases latency. I don't have my rig fired up right now so I'm not sure how to put that module in. Try clicking on the dropdown menus/tabs at the top of the PC inspector and maybe it's there.

BTW if those are your system specs you really shouldn't be having problems as far as I know. Do you have power management turned off?

It happened by accident the first time. It's pretty easy to accidentally double click. And since its a hard crash with no opportunity to save, it puts my work at great risk. I don't like my work being at risk, it will happen at the worst time. And customers blame me...not Cakewalk or Roland. If this is a normal behavior I would call X1 'unstable'. If its not normal I want to understand what is or is not happening. I've mentioned some other issues that may be related.

ive just tried to duplicate this behavior with no luck man. every computer is different. does it only crash when the pc4k is in use? i would suggest not clicking around and save your clicks...lol i know thats easy though,we start clicking and the next thing you know something like this happens. is your moto pci? i know there has been some problems with some motherboards supporting some pci soundcards. you might benifit from putting your spec in your sig like me....this way i dont need to scroll a mile to see your rigs specs. cause hanging around the forum now and then is a good idea. i know most just come here when they have an issue and need help. some even confuse this place with tech support because alot of us take the time to help others while others just use this place as their personal "help me" but it feels good when you can return the favors and help other that have helped you in your/my time of need. i might be able to try a few things with you here if you want and we can try and trace down whats really going on. check your sonar files and see if there is a crash log in there.you might fing some helpful info in that as to what happen leading up to the time the crash happen. it could even be a graphics issue(the clicking thing) not to say your card isnt good, there could be a conflict going on there.

Thanks Charlie. I hear what your saying. I like to help others too. I ask the community first because its quicker and there's usually somebody who has had the same problem. I started using cakewalk at "Version 1" but I have been out of the game since Sonar 5, so there's a ton of stuff I don't know - but I find the forums are the best way to start. I will update my sig line and look into the things you suggested. I am going to try tech support but any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Oh and there is a crash log file. I haven't looked at it because usually those are only useful to tech support people. But I'll look at it for useful information. Thanks.

Just wanted let people know I found the cause of my problem. Somehow (due to creeping senility or random distraction) I did not get the Sonar Expanded version installed correctly. Installing the Sonar Expanded and then the X1d EXPANDED Patch corrected all the problems I was having. Thanks for everyone's patience and attention.
