Credit where it's due

I frequently raise concerns over things that aren't quite right.  Especially if whatever it is has been a problem over a long period.

This isn't one of those cases.  I just had an absolutely pleasant surprise/experience with SPlat ...

After starting up SPlat this morning, I realized my Graphite 49 was powered off.  On a whim, I powered it on without exiting SPlat first.  I was totally shocked (and happy) to see a Sonar dialog asking if I wanted the newly connected device added, warning that the transport would be stopped in the process if it happened to be moving.

I apprehensively chose 'OK'.  The device was added and works perfectly with Sonar.

This ability to deal with devices is new to me, even if it's been this way for a while.

I've seen this in X3 for sure and IIRC X2 and X1.

    Hello,
I have seen this pop up when I have x3 or platinum open and start up Fender Fuse. I really don't understand what that would mean or how I could use Fender Fuse in a DAW. Any help?

It's been around for a while. It's quick to tell you when an interface goes OFF, but sometimes it's very slow to recognize it when it comes back ON. It is better to have everything plugged in and ON before starting Sonar.

I have found few quirks in my run in with the newest Sonar. My workflow may just not hit the spots where the bugs are. Overall i am very satisfied with the product as i always have been with new Sonars. On this specific topic it has came in VERY handy while switching interfaces and other hardware while operating so i didn't have to restart sonar, I love it.

I'm going to test this tomorrow. I've always had to connect/power on my padKontrol before opening Sonar or it simply would not be detected and my Oxygen 25 was skeevy at best when turning it on with Sonar open.

Mind you I've been turning on my devices before opening Sonar since I first discovered the issue in X1 so I have not tried since then.

I learned the Cakewalk power on sequence way back and never tried different until today.  Could be that's it's been like this since XL for all I know.  :)

Just tested Korg padKontrol doing the following...

    1) Opened a project that already had AD2 inserted and had already been triggered with the padKontrol in previous sessions
    2) Turned on padKontrol with project open

Expected result (well not expected because this has never worked before but the implication was that it would): Sonar would detect pK and trigger AD2.

Actual result: No MIDI connectivity with pK and pK was not in Edit > Preferences > MIDI-Devices options.

Of course closing Sonar Platinum and THEN turning on the pK THEN opening the same project resulted in immediate connectivity and I could play through the AD2 track immediately (which was already set up beforehand).

So unfortunately that specific device does not yet allow for immediate MIDI joy with an open project. Probably something to do with the Korg drivers. No big deal. It takes 5 seconds to close and restart Sonar.

I have not tested it with the Oxygen 25 but will report back when I do.

    Cheers.
