Creep or weirdo?

I can never decide really. lol!

I like doing covers mostly to try and recreate what the engineers did even if I don't do them justice sometimes. I'm just having fun.

Enjoy!

I tried to get the vocals right on but as I'm not really a singer and tend to sing flat, I got out the Bee Gee's signiture series vice grips (V-Vocal) and brought them up a bit.

I like your song? I'm looking for the right words for your vocals?

Dangit I had a whole thing written out and pressed 'back' on the browser by mistake.

Anyhow I like your production, specifically the snare drum and reverb choice I dont remember the exact sounds on the original but this seems like it's appropriate.

The vocals need a little more (alot more) V-vocal love,...or hate, whichever way you look at that plug in.  But in any event I think this song would be really hard to sing for a non singer due to the range. and melody over the chords.  I can sing for squat so I have no advise...but nice production.  Sounds like you had fun.

I never heard this before, but it reminded me of Bowie.... in a few ways.

ditto on the recommendation to fix the vox.  Your voice is pretty cool, it just needs to be on pitch.  Melodyne could really do that justice.  Hope you don't take that the wrong way... I use ME on ALL my vocals.... ME actually made me a vocalist....

Robert: your productions are really coming along nicely man. Ditto on the vocals...and I know you know this. I give you so much credit for just throwing it out there and doing the best you can. It's only going to get better if you keep at it. The first thing is to try and figure out where the pitch issues are and try to fix them when/if you know they are off. I remember when I started singing...I was pretty terrible I must admit. But it's either I kept at it...or would have had to wait until I met a singer to sing for me. So I chose to sound like crap for about 5 years trying my best...and one day, I actually got a compliment on my voice and noticed I didn't sound as horrible any more. LOL!!! So just keep at it brother and try to fix the things that are off if you can hear them. If you can't hear them...you have to have someone point them out. I know you have thick skin and want to be the best you can be. Keep at it man...and good job on the production on this. Just work on those vocals and you'll be in good shape. :)

    Thanks for listening everyone!

Don't worry about giving crits, especially my vocals. I know I still have a long way to go there. I usually play the melody and try and match the pitches. Well, I'm at least getting better. The notes were closer than they usually are. lol! I should have joined the chorus in high school. :(

I appreciate the feedback! Good and bad.

    Hey Robert,
I really like this cover.  Performance wise your spot on.  I liked your vocals. Flat in spots but you sang it with emotion.  Mix sounds real good on my end.  If I had to nit, it would be the famous muffled guitar riff.  It needs to sit more forward and sound really chunky.  I would also change the verb on your vox.  All in all a really GREAT cover

Really nice. Your cover of this is reminescent of early Camper Van Beethoven, IMO. I can imagine your cover with Lowery singing and it would fit on any of thir albums... and that is a compliment. Iwent and listened to the beginning of Radiohead's version on YT (some annoying script kept running so I didn't listen to it all) I like yours better. I think your mix sounds better, as far as the intro which is all I compared.

    Hey, Robert,

    Very cool Radiohead cover!

The performances and playing were excellent, and the mix job was really close to the original version.  Yeah, the vox were a bit pitchy, but you have a good, strong voice and belted them out really well.  The way you mentioned playing the vocal melody on the guitar while practicing the singing is right on the money, and will guarantee improvement after some repetition.  I know that with a little more practice on it, you can sharpen up the vox up and knock it outta the park!

    Nice one, buddy, great work!

It's hard to find songs not about christmas on the song forum.

I like the instrumentation, you have done an excellent job.

The vocals, could work because of the type of song it is, the way you sing the song, you could imagaine a spotty teenage kid being creepy looking into the girls lockerroom.

The only problem with the vocals is you haven't picked the right inflections because some of the off tune stuff works, it sounds a lot like Leonard Cohen.  I hope you understand what I mean.

We both know there are a lot of not so perfect singers out there but a good producer would have been able to put together a really good vocal track and the way you sung it, it would have really worked.

Nice job though, I liked it and at least it wasn't a ****en christmas song.

One of the very few tracks of Radiohead i'm familiar wit to be honest. The music sounds very good and i especially liked the grungy guitar. You sing like me, (no, you're slightly better than me), so i can only sympathise with you on that :-) The mix sounds great on my speakers. Enjoyed it.

The voice is just another instrument.  I am not a naturally talented singer like Eva, my sister and other folks up here.  I have to practice tunes and use the same type of warmups I have to do with any instrument.  I still don't approach many of the singers, but eventually I can get the song across.  You have the instrument there, tone etc., so just keep using it and it'sll come along.  It's hard to take a song with "creep" too seriously, LOL!!  You did a nice job, Robert!

Thanks Warren! I appreciate the nice feedback. The song is an oddity though. I loved it the first time I heard it.

Another oddity would be Planet P. They had one hit called, "Why Me." I"ve been working on that one but can't get past the oscilating sound at the beginning. grrrr!

Notation, the original DAW. Everything else is just rote. We are who we are and no more than another. Humans, you people are crazy.
