Creepypasta -- Check out my latest project!
It's right here: http://youtu.be/52VyxnMmtf0 Hey, all. Started a project this afternoon that I've had in mind for a few months now. Anyways, I finished the first of (hopefully) many installments today and I'm just stopping by to whore it out to the online communities which I am active on (damn, english don't come easy at 12:25 AM). Anyways, enjoy! Feedback and suggestions are welcome as always :D

Hey Tyson A humble suggestion. Try it out in the Songs Forum you'll get some feedback and production tips in there. It's a great place for show casing your work.

...and at the risk of being criticised for being a "forum cop" - I would also suggest that you rethink your words for your thread title to something a little more "family friendly."

I can appreciate your position Beagle but I have a question... The TOS says something like within TV family viewing hours..I didn't check but remember kinda...anyway- Do you have a TV? We don't even come close here to what I hear on mine. We're getting old my friend and out-dated I'm thinking.

Hi Tyson, Your voice has a nice tone. May I suggest that you place a multiband on the track and use it as a desser? You can, for example, use just one of the bands to reduce the S energy a bit. Try something like 4.5k thru 8k and pull that down a bit... then adjust the range (4.5-8) to taste. I think you'll find the vocal tone even more pleasant with the S energy reduced a bit. I liked the story... it was entertaining. I'd also suggest that you consider some longer pauses as emphasis. You seem to do it in some instances, but there are places where you might add some extra time to let the story sink in. best regards, mike

I knew when I posted that suggestion that someone wouldn't like it that I made the suggestion. not everyone would agree with me. that's OK. I'm aware of the way the TOS is written. In fact I was looking at it pretty closely last night because I needed something similar. but personally I think about the other parts of the TOS which also says that we need to be considerate of diversity on the forums. so while prime time TV might allow words like this, that doesn't mean I'd appreciate it being said in the presence of my wife or kids. While there are ladies and often teenagers on the forum, I would think this is not an appropriate term to use. I know some of the ladies on this forum wouldn't be offended by terms such as this. but I also know there are some ladies on this forum who are. Again - this is just my opnion. my opinion really means nothing. I'm not a moderator and I don't even feel strongly enough about this to report it to one. It's just my opinion that this is not necessarily the best terminology to use when asking for others to listen to his music on a forum which has teens and women or others with diverse cultures who would be offended by the term.

The reading was pretty good. nice vocal quality. On the crits.... I would slow down a bit. While you do read well..... it goes really fast in a few places. I would also do a low frequency roll off on the voice. It sounded a bit mid/low heavy on my speakers. I listen to talk radio on this same computer and those voices are a bit crisper and more intelligible. Being able to understand every word is critical to the spoken word. There also seemed to be some background noise. I noticed this more when I turned the reading off. I went back to listen again. It's not loud but it's there... Kinda sounds like traffic a bit. It comes and goes. It dawned on me (especially near the end) that the background noise could have been sound effects intentionally placed in there, to add ambiance to the story.... if that is the case, I think a well read, clean recording of the vocal will be all that's needed. The sound FX are distracting. When they came in I found my ears focusing on the "noise" rather than the story. Good story.

Oh, darn. I added the bassy noise here and there for emphasis! Haha, I'll tone that down a bit... Also, I found myself cropping out bits of silence so the story read faster xD shoulda left em the way they were, I guess I very much appreciate the CC, though, and I'll try out some of those EQ tips next time, maybe also tone down the ambient noise track and leave in my long pauses. Thanks so much for the feedback! If ever I'm going to prostitute my projects, I'll hit up "songs" next time :) I figured this being not-songs, it'd be bad to put it where the songs live, but I get your meaning. Peace out, CW dudes

You don't need long pauses.... just slow the speed at which you read a bit. When my girls were younger, and we would set out on vacation, my wife would always buy an audio book or two for the trip. It made the miles easier to handle and usually put them to sleep and when they were awake, kept them attentive to the story, and therefore, quiet. Until they got bored. A good reader will speed up slightly in the tense parts to impart a sense of urgency and slow down a bit in the relaxed parts. The voice is also pitched up and down depending on the mood and urgency in the story. You are, after all, painting a picture in your reader's minds with your words, and a good story is always more then the words. Any experienced storyteller will affirm this. My wife got some Poe stories on tape one time.... The Tell Tale Heart is a good example of the speaker using varying speed and pitch to paint the picture of the fear and panic in the murderer as he imagined the "tell tale heart" beating under the floor boards.... surely the police inspector could hear it too!!! The long pauses in the audio books I remember were at the end of the chapters.... then the title of the next chapter, as the story continued. reading stories well is an art unto itself. Those who can do it well are to be applauded.

Well, first time's a first time :) I'm gonna keep making these (maybe weekly, maybe more often if I've got time and I'm bored). I'll try to pick up on the nuances of reading (research!) and get this whole storytelling thing down :D Thanks for the advice, all. I'll probably update this thread when I put another episode up. I'll include all the advice I've got and hopefully it'll turn out better! peace out

We don't even come close here to what I hear on mine. We're getting old my friend and out-dated I'm thinking. I haven't watched TV for over two months (except for a couple of soccer games that my roommate was already watching). Haven't missed it yet. I remember looking at the current "Top 10" songs a few months ago. Eight of the ten had words you need bleeped out... in the titles! Maybe the world needs to start over on my birthday this year? (12/22 - make sure you buy me a gift early just in case!)
