Cross Road Blues
Playing Cream's Crossroads was a "rite of passage" for guitarists my age. I even got thru it a time or two, back in the day, without making a fool of myself! I've labored over the years trying to come up with an "original" take on Robert Johnson's classic. I took a couple of runs at the slide work and ended up bringing in a friend of mine, Billy Leach, to "nail" it for me. Johnny Winter's Dallas set the bar too high for me to "settle" for a less than stellar performance. Hope you like it... Cross Road BluesTom HFA License 1306738579

Your heart was no doubt in the playing of this song. At first I was thinking : "Hey, how can somebody have the nerve to take such a great artist song and re-record it? Are they just trying to use somebody else's talented riffs?". Then I realized and thought : I must say, it's obvious there is no doubt you took some time playing and recording this. I thought it turned out great honestly! Honestly, this is kinda the direction I am working towards with my own music, REAL MUSIC and playing the guitar for real and learning from listening from the greats like Robert Johnson and others. Learning older styles and incorporating them into my own playing and style. Although I haven't listened to the radio in years because music changed to nothing but copy/paste and steal riffs type of stuff. Keep on doing what your doing here, because, if that's what your heart wants to follow, ROLL WITH IT, don't let others tell you any different. This actually sounds GREAT MAN! I was defensive at first hearing it because of the song cover and playing the tones of a legend, but you did mention who wrote the tune and who played it. So it's all good in my world of tones. Enjoyed hearing this on, and WOW! Keep on Keepin' on!

Thank you for your thoughtful comments Serious. Its always "risky" taking on a "legend", and given that the Johnson covers are a "who's who" of rock and blues royalty... Glad I won you over. T

To Mesh & Wookie, Thank you both very much! I do want to stress, that's me singing and the second guitar, but I just wasn't getting the lap steel work "right". My buddy Billy is a fine guitarist, and he really did nail it for me. Thanks again, T

On yeah... that was a good freakin' version! Another song I've played in the band, though strictly the Cream version. This was such a nice change-up, and Billy's slide work is just... smooth. And the mix sounds great - clear, loud and articulate.

Steve I don't know how old you are, but Crossroads was a "must play" back in my day. I made a mess of it more often than not (maybe the whole band helped me along!). Clapton ramped the solo up every time thru; that bar is set pretty high! Thanks for listening. T

Whoa, that was hot, Tom. My little pc speakers are smoking. That was really great... loved it. I just recorded a song where I hired a guy to play slide, and had I heard this first, I would have asked your friend Billy.
