Just listening' There are wiser peeps here than me that will probably offer good advice. From my perspective the mix sounds crowded as there appears little space for the instruments to breath. I would try some instrument placement techniques and perhaps some selective EQ to open up the different sound stages of the individual parts, I would also point you at my signature. Thanks for sharing I think theres probably something very good in there just needs some gentle tweaking to bring it out.

Well, you certainly have some chops, and a great tone too. However, at times it sounds like you stopped listening to the backing track, 'cos the lead guitar loses it's way more than once. That note at 2:12 for example - ouch! Some nice ideas though. James

hey Michael i really enjoyed this song. you have a very tuneful approach to this genre, we have a couple of guys on this board who are good at this stuff, marcos69 and mike grant, but you are certainly up there!. the guys above have some useful advice, in prticular your style advocates a sort of 'call and response' left then right panning. but i really liked the playing and tune.

Thanks Guys. I really appreciate your help and comments. I did a remix today, again. I hope this is better! There are no out of key notes on the song. I am playing rock, jazz, and fusion type lead runs. A lot of people don't like jazz type licks because they don't like the "tension building" passing notes. They think it's out of key, but if they listened to a lot of jazz, it would know that it's totally normal. Any notes that I hit were totally planned, if not, I would delete them out of the song.

I like this. Myself, I've been accused of playing a lot of 'wrong' notes. I enjoy your phrasing and you've done a wonderful job of bringing your personality to your instrument, and the way your leads walk into the changes makes the song groove well. Perhaps you could go back into verse/chorus at the ending? In my opinion it's a little awkward how it is, kind of like finishing the last piece of steak and not believing that your plate is empty. Good stuff!

Thanks a lot, I used to listen to a lot of Frank Zappa and Steve Vai. Now that's some strange stuff sometimes.

Thanks! I have a big problem with kick drum and bass guitar most of the time. I use a spectrum analyzer now. I should trust it more I guess. I put in 5 or 10 great sounding CD's, watch the analyzer, and try to match the bottom, mids, and top end to it. My studio monitors and computer speaker monitors sound totally different. I hope that I can get better at separating kick and bass.

I hope that I can get better at separating kick and bass. Try a touch of surgical EQ find the centre frequency/sound in the bass that gives it its character and and then use a very narrow/high Q cut in the kick at that frequency repeat with the the kick cutting in the bass. Get it right and you will hear the Bass and the kick as two separate entities.

This is a nice basis for a larger production. The addition of some harmony guits here and there and a mellower, spacey middle section would be real cool.

Kudos my friend !! Good playing and great tone... The song is very well thought out.. Writing is tastey.. The mix is very well done . I too have issues settling bass with kick, or visa versa.. Its my biggest pain in mixing !! I hear everything in this track and I really like the tune !! Good job

I didn't hear any out of tune notes SMB. They all seemed like passing notes to me. When I get nervous is when you do a bend from in-tune to out of tune, that's hard to call a passing note. But all sounded in tune to me.

Thanks a lot guys! Here's a new version with different drums. Which one do you like better? I worked on the guitar volume a little a few minites ago. I think it might be finished now. I am getting really tired of hearing it anymore, for now. It is not a loud song. I settled for an average RMS Power of -14.89. I know that it's low compared to today's Rock, but when I tried to make it hotter, the loudness of the snare pops and cymbal taps started being the same volume, instead of different levels, and the guitar started losing some dynamics. http://www.soundclick.com/player/single_player.cfm?songid=10085326&q=hi or larger, better sounding file below: http://www.atlanticplumbing.net/crossfade.mp3

Nice guitar work! (But then I like ALL guitar players) Melodic solo, nice balace of space and flash. Great guitar tone. I thought the mix sounded pretty good on my Bose speakers. I like it! Daryl
