Crossgrade>ezDrummer>ezDrummer2>Superior Drummer2
Toontrack is offering ezDrummer users a chance to upgrade to ezDrummer2 for $99 when it comes out May 6th. I was all set to go for it until a friend of mine pointed out that for the same amount of money ezDrummer owners can also upgrade to Superior Drummer2. SD2 for $99 is a no-brainer for me so I jumped on the offer. Funny thing is I never received the crossgrade offer for SD2 through Toontrack? Anyway here's the info for those interested. http://www.sweetwater.com...sbX0qb0CFVBgfgodoGgAkg

Hi George, thanks for posting this. Yeah, it's a no-brainer for SD2 (I got this same deal a few years back, but most of the time, I prefer to got the EZ way out as I don't have the patience to tweak). There seems to be a lot of hype on EZD2, so I'll wait a bit and see how this plays out. A popular complaint is that Toontrack doesn't notify users on upgrade deals, so I'm not surprised you didn't get anything. Good to see you in here...... Patre :))

If you bought it at Audio Deluxe you also get a $20 gift card...making the effective price $79...

Patre, Good to see you to my friend. I like the simplicity of ezDrummer as well but for the price of SD2 I had to jump on it. I know what you mean about the hype surrounding EZD2 although it does look like a nice upgrade from EZD. I see it as EZD on steroids with a few extra options to tweak things if so desired. Alittle more tweakable than EZD. Lol. Shame on TT for not notifying their customers. Guess everyone can't be as awesome as Cakewalk. CClarry, Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I did not do the crossgrade through Audio Deluxe so I missed out on the $20 gift card. Oh well... still a bargain at $99, eh...

I've been wanting to get SD2 for the longest time but couldn't justify the expense. The crossgrade price leveled the playing field for me. I wonder if EZD2 is 16 or 24 bit? Heard great things about BFD. I'll probably end up getting it too if it goes on sale. I'm sure it will at some point but for now I'm all set with drums. CClarry In your opinion how does ADD compare to SD2? I'm liking it quite a bit but I've always felt that SD2 was well... Superior. Lol.

TT often sends out pricing which says you can buy it off the site for X amount or a lot cheaper from a retailer. Bizarre.

Keep watch here and cclarry will tell you about good deals when they come up. (If my wife knew how much $ cclarry has cost her, she'd be pretty wizzed off!) I thought about doing the AD deal for SD, but I'm just going to sit back and see what happens. I'll let a few get EZD2 and see if it works as advertised. I think EZD2 is still 16 bit. All things will go on sale again.

That's a good plan Clint...the 16 bit thing was one of my issues with EZ2 as well... Geo....AD is kind of "in between" EZ and SD. It offers more then EZ, but not the "Sound Quality" of SD2... BFD 3 offers the whole shabang and more...I love it. What I hear and can do with it is far greater... BUT...for $79 effective dollars....I'd be ALL OVER SD2 ...that's a steal...and with SD3 probably "lurking" in the background...probably a very wise investment...IMO..

Thanks for the tip. I'll be extra careful. Don't want to get cclarry into any trouble with the Wife for helping me to spend my money. I mean after all he is helping us out by keeping us informed.

CClarry thanks for the clarification on ADD and SD. So BFD is really that good? The possibility of SD3 lurking? Oyyyy... Now I'm really beginning to develop a bad case of GAS!

At this moment in time...IMO....BFD 3 is untouchable...again that's MO...not the gospel... but I'm sure you'll find that most will agree... My current ranking 5. EZDrummer (there are lots of better Kontakt drum libraries, but this is a Drum Sampler list) where Toontrack exceeds the others is in add on libraries and MIDI. 4. SSD 4 (would be higher if the interface were better with more features) 3. Addictive Drums (would be lower for overall sound quality in comp to SSD4 but interface and ease so use makes it sit here) 2. Superior Drummer (one of the best drum samplers on the market - second only to) and can also use EZ kits. 1. BFD 3 - just the sound alone makes it a cut above. Add the new features and, as Emirel would say "BANG". while the interface isn't "pretty", I'm glad they did the do on the samples...and the functions...Great job FXP.... Again...this is only my 5....your experience may differ.

The best thing about the "crossgrade" to SD is that you can keep using EZ, you're not trading it in for its big brother. Which is great because EZ is so convenient for songwriting but SD definitely has a few super handy extra features when you want to take your project to the next step. Which leaves me wondering what if any will be my upgrade options when EZ 2 comes out... :/

Gotta say I never cared for SSD for a few reasons. I bought into Slates no-brainer deal when SSD was fairly new. The registration and install process was a real nightmare for me. Seemed more complicated than it had to be. At least back then. I'm sure at least that has changed by now but the main gripe for me was the sounds always seemed way over processed. Harsh and brittle... just my opinion, but the above not so pleasant experiences stayed with me. I'm gonna sit tight for awhile and get comfortable with SD2 but will also be keeping an eye out for a sale on BFD.

Hi Rain, Perhaps SD3 will be a crossgrade choice for you? I do think it's coming some time in the future. I agree. ezDrummer is a fantastic tool for when you just want to get a quick groove going. That's one of the features that I was most attracted to. I'm also glad that TT designed the EZX packs to work with SD. I have 1/2 a dozen or so - so I won't feel like I've wasted my money. The expansion kits for SD2 look a bit pricey but I'm sure they too go on sale every now and then so I'll grab a few when I can. In the meantime I'll use whatever comes included with SD2 and of course the EZX packs I already have. It's great to have choices...

I'm crossing my fingers it's something like that - though in all honesty, both EZ and SD work just fine as they are for me. There are a few things from SD I wish I could see in EZ, but that's nitpicking. Like you I've stuck with EZX packs. I might have bought a few SD expansions but I just didn't have the patience to wait for the DVD - the EZX are so affordable and offer instant gratification. That being said, I'll probably grab the Metal Foundry and Custom & Vintage SDX sometime in the future. :)

Hey Geo524 You can always try out the BFD3 Demo which is to the right of the video. It does obviously have limitations that some people have complained about, like that it's time limited to 30 minutes but as least it should give you some idea of what it's about. The concept with BFD3 as with SD2 is to give you great sounds out of the box along with all the control that you would expect to find if you were an engineer at a high end desk in a top studio. If I were to choose on sound alone it would be BFD3 without a doubt and that was why I bought BFD2 but I much prefer the mixer to any of the others, like being able to add and remove aux channels as and when I need them and to be able to drag them to where I want in the mixer and of course the 35 or so effects that come with it.
