Crossover to Logic?
Hi, everyone. I soon will begin taking on a lot of recording projects at my church, whose current setup employs a mac and Logic. On the MacBook I work on when I'm not in my home studio (on Windows), I'm trying to mess with Reaper to finalize a track, but I realize how difficult it is to transfer. Does anyone have any good tips on how to crossover easily to another DAW?

Oh yeah, I've messed with OMF just a little. I'm actually thinking more in terms of how to 'mentally' set myself up for being ready to learn new interface and workflow

I've watched some logic vids at groove3, just don't try to "force" Logic to be Sonar. I think the transition won't be that tough. Tom had to edit all the mistakes that my wife's total POS iPad created in the original post. Does Safari work as poorly on the Mac as it does on the iPoop? What a miserable POS... just sayin'... smart? really? IDTS

+1 TO GROOVE 3. They have lots of logic videos. I heard that logic pro has one of the best algorithmic reverb included in a daw.

davedud, I think that watching some videos, as well as starting up Logic and poking around, would probably be the fastest way to get a sense of Logic. Aside from the DAW premise, it is quite different from Sonar in many ways and for someone very familiar with Sonar, Logic is quite a paradigm change, but you can certainly get going in it without understanding all of it's differences. Lots of folks here recommend Groove 3, but searching through YouTube or Vimeo you'll be able to find plenty of decent and free videos. You can also check with the Logic forums for recommended videos/tutorials. Good luck. Logic is actually a very nice DAW with some features that outshine Sonar.

You could always ask Rain on the Coffee House forum for advice, he's an ex Sonar user who's now using Logic, is he not?

If I can be of any help, I'll be glad. Though for me the transition was rather brutal - I simply bought a Mac and Logic and started working on new projects. I was familiar with it having worked with the PC version in the past, but I'd been using Sonar exclusively for years. The Logic Pro user group forums are an excellent place to find information - the moderator actually writes the Apple certification books for Logic, so he knows his stuff. Those certification books, though relatively expensive, are worth every penny. Hands on approach that'll get you up and running in no time. Groove 3, as was mentioned, is also an excellent source of tutorials. The ones by Eli Krantzberg are particularly brilliant. You can also find Books and DVD combos by Dot Bustelo - the lady knows her stuff and she's trained many pros to use Logic. In terms of workflow, Logic is the most intuitive and logical piece of software there is as far as I'm concerned. Considering that Sonar X's so-called skylight interface is an adaptation of Logic's own GUI, I think it shouldn't be too hard to adapt. Furthermore, things work as advertised, so you don't have to learn the software plus a whole routine of workarounds.

I have Logic and I have found it much easier to learn and feel comfortable composing music with than I thought it would be . here's a list of the The Groove 3 videos that have helped me learn my way around Logic the most ESX24 in Action Logic Plugins Explained Logic Score Editor Explained Logic Qwik Trix Logic Operator -Volume 1 Logic Operator -Volume 2 Midi Orchestration Explained Logic is Great , once you get under the hood and learn your way around it a bit , you might find out that there are plenty of valid reasons why it is considered to be one of the best of the fully featured DAW's out there Kenny

I found the easiest way for me was to have a total beginner mind as if I had never touched a DAW. I am still learning and do find myself exporting to Sonar when I need to do critical work, but I am more and more comfortable. Since rain ises it fulltime he may be the most helpful
