Crusin' 7th Avenue (with help from Mark)

Mark (CLEAN) was kind enough to help me out on this song by providing some absolutely terrific and tasteful guitar leads and fills on this number.  He also did the mixing on this number as well.  I sent him a rather so-so song and he sent it back sounding light years better than what I sent him.  Thanks a million Mark!

By way of background 7th Avenue runs through a section of Tampa called Ybor City.  Back in the 1960's Ybor City was on the decline and Tampa has been trying to revitalize it.  There is a lot of history in Ybor and it was/is considered the Latin Quarter of Tampa.  Ybor is still struggling but back in the 1990's it became quite a dining and clubbing area.  There was a great little club (no longer there) called the Blues Ship.  Crusin' on 7th Avenue was one of the things to do before going to the clubs and restaurants.

I hope that you enjoy this ride down 7th Avenue.  As usual suggestions and comments are appreciated.

Thanks again to Freddy for allowing me to be involved in this project. I must admit I did beg Fred a bit to let me play on another one of his songs - I just love the way you play the blues.

Thanks all for taking a listen - and thanks again Freddy.

This was a fun diversion.  The production is clean and well balanced, and the performances sounded like they were fun to play.  Way cool!

    Hi Freddy & Mark,

Great job, guys. This is as much fun to listen to as I'm sure it was to record

Thanks for taking the time to listen and for the kind comments Jan.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement Frank.

Hi Mark.  You never have to beg me.  It has always been a real treat for me each time that we have collaborated.  You have a knack for making the amateurish stuff that I send you sound good.  Good luck on Friday and we are all wishing you a speedy recovery!!

Robbaaaaaay!  Thanks for the good words.  Not only is Mark a guitar player but he's a good guitar player and you're right he sure does improve the quality of anything that I have sent him.

Hey Lynn.  This was fun to do!  Perhaps I should be a bit more serious about music but I have to admit that I am in it for the enjoyment of it.  Thanks for taking the time to listen and for responding.

I am real glad that you enjoyed it Gary and thanks for the kind words.  Your right -- this sure was a bunch of fun recording.

Thanks again for all your help on this number Mark.

    Hey, Freddy and Mark,

Very nice job on this smooth sounding blues rocker!

Great songwriting, excellent guitar work by both of you, and the vocals and harmonies are dynamite.  Some nice tasty lead licks flying around in this one, and the mix really sounds super.

    Fantastic collab, guys!

Freddy and Mark - very cool!

I'd back off that hat and crash some, and the snare.  and I can't hear the kick very well, so I'd boost it in the 60 to 70Hz range, or add/or some transient shaping to it.  bass and guitar are nice.  vocals are good and sit well most of the time, but sometimes the snare and hat cover them up.

really cool song and very well done guys!

That was really good, guys.  Yeah, I fancy Mark as a player and producer too.  :-)  This really falls into your wheelhouse, Freddy.
