I tried to go for vipassana and 10 days of noble silence earlier this month. But I was a little short the funds to get up to Georgia. I really want to go before it gets too hot ie the summer. But I will be short this month as well. Cause my car needs about $600 in maintenance. What I am doing right now, to be exact, is 3 days of a berry and dandelion root fast/diet. I'm incredibly light headed right now!! I'm not looking forward to walking my energizer puppy!!

These things are awesome!! I wish I had one in my apartment! http://www.infraredsauna.com/ Our earth is so polluted now. Its nothing like growing up in the 1880s, or even the 1930s for that matter. quote "sauna folk" Since 1965, over 4 million distinct chemical compounds have been reported in scientific literature. Over 6000 new chemicals were added to this list between 1965 and 1978. As of 1981, of over 70,000 chemicals in commercial production, 3,000 have been identified as intentionally added to our food supplies and over 700 in drinking water. During food processing and storage 10,000 other compounds can become an integral part of many commonly used foods. Added to this list of potential body toxins, petrochemicals, industrial waste, medical and street drugs, radiation (X-rays, nuclear fallout etc.) and tons of pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides, the result is an incredible chemical avalanche to have befallen the human race in a relatively short period of evolutionary history. There is currently a wealth of scientific evidence showing that thousands of drugs, preservatives, pesticides, and other pollutants remain stored in the body long after exposure. We know for example that an organochlorinated pesticide such as the metabolites of DDT have a half life of between 20 and 50 years in the fat deposits of humans. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over 400 chemicals have been detected in human tissue; 48 were found in adipose tissue, 40 in breastmilk, 73 in the liver and over 250 in the blood. /quote

I'm a big fan of saunas (and also steam rooms) but I do not believe that sweating has any kind of detox effect whatsoever. Toxins are removed from the body via the liver, the kidneys and the gastrointestinal tract - not the skin. The purpose of sweat is to regulate the body's temperature. Analysis of sweat shows that it's mainly water, with trace elements of minerals that are not considered toxic (zinc, copper, iron etc). However that's not to ignore the health benefits of saunas, because they have been shown to encourage relaxation, decrease blood pressure, and enhance blood flow. I find them incredibly helpful after a workout. They also seem to do wonders for my skin. I would love one in my own home.

what a load of bollocks +1. The rivers are not catching on fire anymore. The air is much cleaner. There are NO chronic chemicals used in pest control, ony acute. I detox with water and milk. then I dring Coca~Cola to help retain the water again. The doctor says my liver levels are great. My choesterol is good, life is good! My mom and dad ate McDonalds ever since it came to town, they were already old... they are 94 and 96 now. Dad has eaten pancakes, with eggs and bacon all his life... he was an exterminator when they used chloridane and DDT for most everything, I helped. We used a lot of calcium cyanide too, in rat burrows... hit them in the head when they ran out of the hole... unless we took our airedale along, she loved to grab and shake them. Now we have stuff that works and is not carcinogenic. Life is better. Not sure about all the microwaves and other frequencies flying everywhere... but the air and water are cleaner than they were 30 years ago, much cleaner than 40 years ago. I do eat natural meat when I can but I don't obsess about it. I eat jumbo eggs and have some salt pork in the fridge. I believe in eating natural foods lie butter, sugar, and saturated fats.... your body knows what to do woth them. Eat right and you wont need to detox... take some fiber now and then if the opiates stp you up... life is good! "What do I think life is like? I don't know, all I know is life ain't like nothin' I've ever seen before . . ."

I was 16 years old when I visited UK for the first time (my first trip abroad) and for the first time saw a single family house without a sauna. To us finns sauna is almost like a religion, and "sauna" is a finnish word. Most of us would have a hard time managing without one, I think. It's quite common to have one in flats as well nowadays, and practically all apartment buildings have one that the residents can use. Anyway, I don't believe either that it has much to do with detoxing your body. It's an unbeatable relaxant and stress reliever, though. And especially combined with swimming (especially in winter in ice holes) in between the heat sessions it surely enhances your metabolism.

OK, I have read a bit about Vipassana. It reminds me of what was accomplished by the use of things like LSD in earlier days. Psychedilic drugs will force you to see things as they are, whether you want to or not. Of course, you'll see a lot of other things too... but you WILL come face to face with yourself. Vipassana sounds interesting but I am not sure at my age that I could endure it. I am glad you are seeking to better yourself and I wish more people searched for truth. I will pray for you that you will find what you seek and be truly purified... and don't read anything into that, I don't mean anything other than wahat I said. I am being sincere. I truly wish you well and am impressed that you are seeking something more from life.... purity. It is a noble quest. J

All I accomplished from LSD was sore sides from laughing, and a lot of paint in my hair. We were definitely in the Ken Kesey school of tripping. I knew people who kind of lost the plot from taking acid, and I always held that their mistake was in viewing it as some kind of mystical, spiritual experience. I just viewed it as a wacky chemical flitting through my brain causing all kinds of sensory havoc. Viewed like that, it's actually kinda fun. Although I don't think I would ever take it again. It can have some detrimental effects, including permanent eye damage. When I look at a pitch black sky, I see lots of visual interference in the form of tiny glowing dots. It kind of screws my enjoyment of the stars. A lot of people I know who took acid in their youth (as well as smoking lots of pot) report the same. It's just not worth it.

A positive attitude and good intent are everything when taking halucinogens. Having understanding friends is also a big benefit. You're supposed to enjoy yourself and, just maybe, learn a bit about yourself and the universe you live in. Control freaks should leave it alone.

I think the only scary trip I had was one Saturday afternoon when we thought it would be a great idea to drop acid and take a walk around Fenwick's, our local department store. Of course we got hopelessly lost and couldn't find the exit. And when at last we did find an exit, it took us out to some desolate loading bay around the back. Major comedown. Kids, don't do drugs, especially not in department stores. They're full of mannequins, perfume counter ladies and other terrifying things.

I'm going to paraphrase something that I believe Hunter S. Thompson said; "drugs open many doors, the types of doors that would not open without them, they also close doors, the types of doors that would not close without them, in the end, they close more doors than they open." Yeah.. In a former life somewhere, I tripped my face off...

Rule #1 for me always was: Don't be around people who aren't on the same stuff you are. Of course, being the total geek that I am, I always planned things out to make sure everyone stayed safe. Note that this didn't apply when I was doing lighting for those underground clubs in Los Angeles - they were on their own!
