Curse it, no varispeed - So, can you achieve this effect, read on...

A common effect used on pop music is stopping the whole track dead - as though it's record and you've placed your hand on it, slowing it down quickly.

With no varispeed is there any other way to achieve this effect?
Or is it Melodyne the finished mix (assuming you've got it, Melodyne that is)

Taa taa

One way to get that effect is to use TapeStop.

Oh yeah, The only way I have found to make the effects permanent was to right click it and enable its write parameters, then use TapeStop while the project plays. Then bounce that to another track.

I'm pretty sure you can edit the envelope the Write creates in the track but I've never tried doing so.

For the main effect I want it's simpler than that.

Put TapeStop across the relevant Bus.
    Disable its 'up' button.
Switch the automation on & press the Stop button in the track where you want it to... er... stop.
Then just before the track starts again (if you're using the effect during the song) punch the stop button again to release the effect.
Then go back & set the speed of the curve on TapeStop.

Or you can set the speed first then automate it. Whatever.

Anyway, once done, you can apparently leave it like that.

So cool. I can use this on vocals, too. Great fun.

I guess my point was that you have to automate it. If not, you can use it live but its effects aren't recorded.
