Sheesh I was just starting to think it would work ok and now Steve comes by and shatters my hopes.

I'm getting more and more confused.

So the question is, can I select any clip and assign it a background color?

Update...

I've exported my custom colour scheme from X2 and imported it into X3, and the background clip colours have all changed to the pale yellow! So it must be possible, I must have just missed the correct 'name' for it.

Sa far as I can tell though, the foreground colour changes to match whichever custom colour you choose for the track pane in the TV (and the strip colour in the CV).

I thought there was a way to switch off the automatic link between foreground colour and track pane colour but now I'm not so sure.

Mike, I'm off to bed now but I'll dig a little deeper into this tomorrow if nobody else comes along to let you know exactly what's possible.

"Do you know where the colour presets are stored?"

Not sure right off but do a search for *.clr and they'll show up.

You can also IMPORT a colorset from X2 or before and see what changes.

Do you know where the colour presets are stored?

I was going to try and import my X2 scheme but I'm buggered if I can find where they are.

"%appdata%\Cakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer\"

They have extension '.clr' and are ASCII-editable

Yes, however Sonar stores them internally so if you change something in that file... or even in the Windows registry Colors, Sonar rewrites them from within.

YES!

Preferences - Colors will change colors globally.

Individual tracks can be changed in the Inspector. Just uncheck "Use Track Colors" or whatever it says. Then click the color swatch and change it.

They may be exported and imported. Export, edit, then import if you like.

Yes, select the clip(s) and change the background via the clip inspector. Any other clips follow the colour settings from either default or those set by the new track colour widget.

FWIW, I think of music as ephemeral sculpture that you can experience as a form of environmental immersion.

best regards,
mike

No wonder I love music!

As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!

My only question is,
where can I get the "Steve" preset?

Greg
I am selling my MIM Fender Stratocaster HSS, red and black. PM for more details.

Music Creator 2003, MC Pro 24, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL, SONAR  X3e, CbB, Focusrite Saffire, not enough space.
Everything is better with pie.

Conveniently stored in the registry. X2 Producer is here HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X2\Presets\{6B0298E5-C4B7-4AAF-90EF-B214D18F7654}

Got to export it from X2 before you can import it into X3.

Meebee...  But if you want to make it into the Blues, you need to change the color of the background of the clip.

Isn't that what I said But was told No-Can-Do in X3 (#38)?

I'm sooo confuuused.

I NEED X3!

Question: Can you do it by Right Click as in pre X series?

Yes and no. The track inspector has had the background colour widget removed but the clip inspector hasn't. The track inspector wouldn't change the clips either.

X3 is a great upgrade and well worth doing, if only for the comping, assuming you like the X direction of course.*

*IMHO and all other disclaimers I need mention.

PS. The original screenshot I posted is genuine and has not been photo-shopped, changed, resized, touched up, airbrushed, or recoloured in any way.(Does that cover it all? - )
