I really like the F hole being extended through the pick guard.

I've never seen that before.

That detail is quite cool, but the 'Mickey Mouse ear' horn and the headstock are really weird.

$4900.00? For that? That thing looks like it weighs about 45 pounds! I gotta go with James on this one. Maybe it sounds great, but man it looks like crap to me.

Ha ha! It's the D.A.D. bassit. Notice that the bass has only two strings? He is a two-string-bass player. He doesn't need any more strings so he makes his own basses - or have someone making them for him - so he doesn't have to deal with all the other strings. You can see some more of his basses here

I hear that he went into the local music shop with that thing and asked "Could I have a set of strings for this guitar please mate".

The shop owner replied "That seems a fair swap to me".

Makes the tuning more 'standard' so you can hit it with the perfect tuning preset, no?

Handmade is best for 'sweetness' of course, especially when the pickguard is fashioned with a nail-file.

The guy at our local bike shop never uses machine tools on any of his guitar stock.

Where's the value add in that?

I'm just wondering how would could standardize value add?

With the highest greed profit margin possible of course.

I'm thinking a variation on your 3 for the price of 5 tactic but with more subtlety.

I'd throw in a tuner and a bike spanner.

When I had a guitar shop I had three specialists I could call on to get every item hanging up in the sweetest playing condition possible.  If I wasn't happy they'd go back, sometimes several times until they were right.  From top of the line to the clunkers, if they weren't right they weren't on hangers.

That way I didn't have to discount so heavily that WAS the value add.

I used to help out the local cyclists when they got word too getting the spokes tuned nicely so when they pegged cards to the forks they could play a nice melody along the way.   The 26" diameter 'Welsh Harp' was my most popular wheel.

There seems to be certain shared principals across multiple disciplines, no?

I call that standardization.

Others call it value add.

Here's a much nicer one - an LP made entirely from hand tools:

Very very long thread about it here:

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.
